It's all coming together.

The trials and tribulations concerning my essential use of a semi auto are well documented. It has not been easy to adapt from an under and over for an old Fossil like me. However I have tried for the sake of my shooting.

This afternoon I saw a change in my attitude and shooting. The last rape stubble on my land was the venue right on the top of the Wolds with a 15 mph wind in perfect conditions. I knew that there was not a big bag to be had but it was good to be out. I chose to set up round a telegraph pole not quite in the middle of the field with two birds on the rotary out front and the wind and sun at my back and Jasper at my feet. I was ready to go at 2:30.

For an hour pigeons decoyed pretty well. Those coming directly into the wind were quite easy and those crossing in front at 40-50m were anything but. However for once in my life I made a fair fist of it, even the guessing I had to do to determine how much lead I had to give seemed to be spot on. I even had a treble, the first of my shooting career. Three birds came directly into the wind. Once they were passed the floaters the shots were on. The left hand bird peeled left and was shot, the middle bird came straight on and was shot and the right hand bird peeled right and was shot. In the two seconds between the first shot and the last the pressure build up was immense.

How glorious our countryside is on an afternoon like this. I appreciated every minute.

Congratulations on achieving the triple , could be the first of many .

I was out today but left the gun at home for a change , yesterday I was facing the sun all afternoon and it was very humid with a light sea breeze coming inland , ended up with a few pigeons a head ache and my shirt wet with sweat , today it was still hot but a bit fresher , in fact a ideal day to give my dog a few swimming lessons with a dummy chucked across the river which after a couple attempts of trying to climb the water to get to it he then realised he could get to it quicker by keeping his legs under the water ,anyhow he enjoyed himself and like you say , a ideal day to be out in our lovely countryside ,

I love my 3 shot semi for pigeon shooting, I couldn't imagine using any other gun.

Easier to load and handle in the hide and the extra shot has came in very handy many times. Ive had a fair few trebles over the years since I got it and they are special, well done. Ive resisted the urge to go for a section 1 as I dont imagine I would ever shoot a full house with one ;)

If only it picked up its own empties...

Hi i am fairly new to pigeon shooting and read with interest in changing guns for the hide, I have a reasonably good gun for Game shooting and wondered if i should just use an old gun for shooting in a hide and more experienced shooters than me tell me to stick with the one gun. :hmm:

I'm afraid I'm a traditionalist...cant even get on with a OU let alone a single barrel multi.

I can hit most things with my trusty 16 G SBS... I've had it for so long its a part of my Arm now.

I suppose a triple must give the same satisfaction as a double

But a third more disappointment when you loose all three and don't down a bird.

I saw some American chap shooting Doves when I was in Montana a few years back.

Blam Miss, Blam Miss, Blam Miss, Blam Miss, Blam Miss, Blam Hit, his mate turns to me and says that's great shooting by Chuck. !!!

hello, well done Jd :good: , now what is a 3 shot kill called ? right and left and ??? i would say very good shooting.cheers

I would be pretty confident and say it would be Centre. ??

No need whatsoever to change guns for use in the hide , the gun you use for game shooting would be ideal , I use my one all the year round for pigeon , game and wildfowling and I don't feel it is any handicap , the only thing I would say is not needed ( in my case ) is a ejector, as force of habit I always put my hand over the breech when I open the gun after a shot is fired and take the empties out myself and put in my bag.
