Guardian Dragging Up BASC Issues

Lot's of pretty ripe language in paragraph four. Typical left wing clap trap from a paper that struggles.

The thing that worries me is hiring expensive lawyers ( paid for by the members) sorting out the BASC's apparent management shortfalls. When you are running an organisation such as this the leader should sort it not pass it on like some sort of hot potato !

That makes very interesting reading.

I do a bit of stalking on social media of the likes of packham and avery. They have 115,000+ signatures of the ban driven grouse shooting, they are lobbying MP's via RSPB / RSPCA / PETA etc as well as those who have signed the petition, sending out so called facts to send to MP's etc. I've even seen replies from MP's acknowledging these 'facts' In prep for discussion.

What worries me is while this is going on, this lot are having play ground fights.

Didn't basc spend in excess of £100k on state of the art media centre a few years ago, surely they must have also appointed media staff / PR.

I've yet to see anything worth while come out of this (again in the public domain) to counteract these accusations / give anything back against the ban driven grouse agenda (please don't tell me their 'nomoormyths' campaign is any good, it could be done better with a £99 video camera, a £200 laptop and a 14 year old school kid.)

Basc, for years have played on the infighting and egos at their opposition, looks like it's on the other foot.

I've heard they spend more than that on their kitted out land rovers!

I would. They are the main voice of shooting.

They also seem to be doing/publicising what they are doing more too.

From what I see they are promoting themselves to shooters, pointless, in a fashion not seen since the 1980's. Soft, weak press release. This is 2016, the press is finished, they are a multi million pound organisation with a state of the art media centre. ***!!!!!!

Do we need a nomoormyths promo, to be a guy in a tweed suit standing on a hill side, saying what a great job they do? The fight needs to taken to them.

How about getting a known face of shooting (beefy is OK, but not the best) and doing a modern promo of grouse shooting.

I'm a die hard def leppard fan, here is a PETA promo from a few years ago, I say again BASC, years ago, using their guitarist (it annoys me) you don't see camo, balaclava, DM wearing, dole waller in transit vans in this video.

Compare BASC output to this:

They really need to review their PR, marketing and media. I'm not sure it's really cutting the mustard in terms of production, message and exposure. It may actually be better for BASC, rather than keeping this internally, to farm these services out to professionals and manage the output? Just a thought.

Defined businesses run to a particular model - the business is there to make money, the boss is hired to do his best to run the business for the most profit and the staff get paid wages to do the bidding of the boss.

You take any organisation out of this basic model and it's absolute carnage. This includes any charitable association, club, friendly society or (and in particular) golf club - the warring camps and infighting is quite spectacular and entirely predictable.

I feel sorry for BASC because they are doing their spring cleaning under the microscope - everyday the employment tribunals across the land are full of ordinary boring Companies duking it out with staff and it's not that interesting to the rest of the world.

Take some comfort that BASC don't appear to be in quite a big a pickle as the CPSA.

As said above organisations such as BASC are always going to end up employing a few egos that occasionally bump in to each other , as the hierarchy isn't as defined as it would be in the business world, so maybe we should just leave it at that and focus on supporting them.

On a positive note I attended a BASC 'Improve your shooting day' at West Kent shooting school yesterday which was excellent , £85 for a full day of coaching and instruction by BASC shotgun coaches , not to mention a super lunch.

I don't know of another organisation putting so much effort into encouraging newcomers or those that just need to polish their technique a bit.

They were genuinely enthusiastic despite that fact that they are doing this stuff all the time , I picked up a lot of tips and food for thought and also had a good laugh . Top day.
