Bounder the Border.

Bounder my faithful companion of thirteen years died at my feet this morning.

He had been pretty ropey for a few weeks, made a good recovery for our trip to Norfolk but has degenerated since our return. He has been buried at the edge of one of my favourite fields at the top of the Wolds.

This was a dog which was more like a cat in temperament as he never took instructions and always did as he pleased. He was once lost for eight days in a badger sett before turning up in the village where we lived and he would for ever chase hares, deer and foxes, returning only when he was tired out and never with his quarry. He was the veteran of five hundred days pigeon shooting and was a master retriever. For his last retrieve two weeks ago he had to go through brambles, into and out of a ditch, through more brambles and then back. One of his best retrieves ever.

He will be greatly missed.
