It's your choice because it's you that has to look through it. It's more a case of the magnification and size. I'd go for a fixed power of 6x 40 or 42. You don't need any more than this and you get more and better glass for the pound. A lot of cheap vary power scopes can't hold the point of aim when the power is changed.

Have a bunch of Hawkes and only one has shown any problem but that one has been thrown in and out of aircraft many times...attached to a rifle of course. All of the others I have no problem with. Have one mounted on my double rifle and it hasn't died yet. As said above pitched at a 22RF then a fixed power 4 or 6 would be adequate, although I do like variables. As long as zeroing is done on maximum power there should not be any detected movement, certainly not at 22RF ranges.
