Some months ago some kind person managed to bump my car in a LIDL shopping centre.

Unfortunately they forgot to leave their details.

Was just wondering if anyone on here has any idea about rough repair cost ?

Sent is angled on the rear war side of the door frame, pics should be attached!

Around £200 for a repair.

No doubt through insurance or an 'approved' repairer/main dealer ,more like £1000+ ,possibly looking at replacing the skin or door,or at least quoting for such, then just repairing it.

Trust me Ive worked in all types of bodyshop, and the dishonesty goes up with the size.

to me it looks like the rear quarter is damaged not the door,

Yea that is correct. It's the frame around the door, door I believe is unmarked, which is a shame probably as I imagine if it is a lot of work, it would be easier to replace the door than smash the frame back into place ?

Thank you. What / who would you look for to do a repair like that and to avoid having the urine extracted ?

Shop around, talk to friends and neighbours ,try to find a small reliable garage/bodyshop in your locality.

They do exist  .

Usually you will find they have a good customer base without advertising.

I have never advertised in over 30 years of trading, its all word of mouth and recommendations.

A small place keeps the cost of work down,so leading to more business, big franchises have massive overheads and wage bills,so have to charge big just to turn a profit.

Also just because they are big ,does not guarantee a better job,in my experience its often sub standard, because the person doing it doesnt care,he still gets paid.

If you can get inside the panel from inside the car it might not be that expensive. Some of these chaps who remove dints can do magic on your driveway.

I once had someone do something very similar when i had a Rover 75 (dark blue metalic). It looked like it was going to cost hundreds. The guy turned up with his bag of rods and stuff and said if he couldnt fix it he would say.40 minutes & £75 later it looked like it had never happened.

It's silver, lovely. Double the price. I've done similar in the last week for £475.

That's more like a realistic price, the rear quarter will have to be repaired painted the door for colour match and the door jam as the damage will be visible inside. I you can get it done for £200 then it's a bargain in my eyes.

+1

Bigger bodyshops and dealers have to pay for bs (British standards but it is bs) their staff have to meet standards and are tested every 3 years theory and practical all machinery has to be certificated health and safety has to be managed all staff have to have uniform the list goes on

Nobody gets ripped off we're too heavily monitored bigger shops simply have massive overheads

Take the job above 1.5 hr strip and fit 2.5 panel 3 paint 7hrs labour at around £40 =£280

That's just labour now bear in mind most good shops are paying a good bloke around £14 it's all getting quite expensive

A bloke in a small shop on his own probably could do the job for 200 but as good as a big shop maybe but wouldnt bet on it

I'm with Dayvo, I've had dent repairers do work on my drive for areas on the car that are high up and would easily show a repair when looking along an even panel. Its amazing what they can do - sometimes using an air brush and halogen paint dryer.

Most of that could be beaten out from inside if inner access is good. Modern day base coat and lacquer with specialists or mobile repairers mixing the exact paint code on site means the repair area is quite small.

Is it my eyes or do I see a minor chip repair on the rear of the door - which suggests a not very new car? Being low down on the car - and in an area that's broken up by panel lines - not nearly flat or showing reflections - does it need to be to a very high standard?

I've done some repairs myself that I would not have attempted with the old solid paints. This sort of stuff and a bit of filler with some production and wet/dry could cost in the region of £100 ish.
