Inland duck

Given the choice i would always go for the Gamebore, but in 3s rather than 4s and better still the 3 inch Mammoths. They might seem over kill , but its surprising how many 35-45 yards shots you have inland and they work quite well on close geese if the chance comes your way. From bitter experiance I would avoid Lydale\Express steel shells.

All my ducks are inland (lough neagh). RC steel 25 to 35 yards(first barrel ) and Gamebore Mammoth 2nd barrel.

Edit to ask whether you mean a flight pond or open water shooting. Any open water would have me reaching for the mammoth.

+1 for the gamebore (preferably in 3" size 3)

For me, however, the biggest problem is getting whatever shot size I choose close enough to the bird to drop it. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can buy that will help me with that particular problem :-)

Good luck!

I dont buy 3 inch or anything like that in any factory shell, i only buy the very occasional box of 3 steel in 70mm 32 gram 3s or 4s , but those i know who buy mamoth steels and such moan they cant get them in decent shot sizes Two have started reloading because of this, not sure what size they come in from gamebore but dont sound ideal from what ive heard.

Gamebore load in US steel shot sizes. So No 3 in gamebore is No 2 English size. This works very well for duck to 45 yards and geese up to 40 yards. No 2 English size may be expected to have a very open patten but when tested through 1\4 choke the pattens are quite tight but not super tight and plenty tight enough for teal to mallard without damaging the bird.

In theory mammoth no 3 may seem a bit big for ducks , but as many have posted on here Gamebore mammoths are their prefered shell. They seem to work in the field better than would be expected. For me they produce an average better than a bird in the bag for every 2-3 shots over a variety of conditions which is pretty average for most wildfowlers and I get very few wounded birds.
