Very gun UNSAFE

The other day a friend popped round to have his rifle charged and brought his about 23 year old son with him., it is SMK's first venture into PCP's a PR900W. Having charged it up he asked if he could check zero, no problem says I and gave him a target to set up on my backstop at 20 metres.

Then the lad asks if he can have a go at zeroing the gun, his did says ok (muppet). First thing the boy does is to sit on my back step put a mag into the rifle locks and loads it and take the safety off while pointing it down range. Straight into the space where his dad is stood placing the target. I am stood behind him and could see it was pointing right at his dad.

Whoa says I what the hell do you think you are doing, he gives me a puzzled look, what's wrong he asks. If you don't know you should not be holding a loaded gun. First I told him the score re the gun deployment, then I told him to get inside my kitchen where I had set up the kitchen table and a bean bag to give a stable platform for zeroing. Told him that I was very discreet when I shoot into my garden as a neighbour 2 doors down is very anti gun.

The gun is a straight pull bolt action, when the gun is set up there is no need to take it off the bean bag. What he does when he reloads is to lift it up and swings it round into the room and works the bolt where it is now pointing at me (I am standing to the side with bins to check where his pellets go). He does this three times despite being told, stopped him shooting. More importantly the boy is banned from shooting at my place for ever.

Never seen such unsafe gun handling, thing is he did not have a clue that he was doing anything wrong.

By the way the rifle is a piece of junk (IMO) and so is the never before heard of scope.

was told a similar story a few years ago........we were down at billy bells range in yarmouth.....waiting for a couple of mates to turn up ..when a 4x4 turned up and a bloke got out and walked over to us .....

he was very polite and said he had been wildfowling for a number of years ...and his son was growing up rapidly and started a very unhealthy facination with guns and "call of duty" killing games...it came to a head when he caught his son trying to pick the lock on his gun cabinate...so he could fondle the guns....

the boy was about 16or 17 years old.....and asked us if he could have the range to show him what the difference is between playing on a computor and holding and firing "a real live gun".....

we had no objection ...providing he was totally supervised whilst he did the round......the father said "he wont get that far"...."just a shot or two"...."at a plank"....so we said fine.......

so out of the back of the car he dragged this 1" thick plank and about 9" wide.....propped it up on the range ...then went back to the car and got he son and the gun...................

his son was just a broard smile...cheek to cheek......the gun was i think a 3" chambered pump.....we all stood behind him as the father chambered a 3" magnum shell in to the chamber..........then turned to his son and said "take it in your shoulder how you see in the computor games you play" so he did.....(not a pretty sight) his father still had a hold of the gun and said "aim at the middle of the plank".....then when i switch the safety off aim and pull the trigger".......

which he did..........................welllll i dont what was in that shell but it certainly went off.....it tore the plank in half....(it was about 5-6 yards away)....didnt put the boy on his back but it really hurt him......he had lost his smile....and backed off when his dad said "come one ive got a whole box of these to fire off yet".....boy just shook his head......

they cleared up and said thank you and went...........

about couple of mths later ...i was talking to billy bell and he said he had spoken to the bloke who's boy had a go on the range........and........i said......"he said the boy hasnt touched his computor since and the bruise took 3 weeks to go......and he plays a lot of football and dosnt mention guns anymore".............

When I used to run Weston lodge Shooting Ground. On our corporate days I used to shoot 1 gallon plastic cans full of red dye in the water as a demo, before their intro. I did this from about 10 yds with full choke. That concentrated their mind, and they were very respectful of the shotgun on their 30 bird beginners round.

The very first shot I have fired was at a plastic bucket filled with wet mud at about 10 yards under the eye and instruction of my dad. It certainly made and impact, and I don't mean on the bucket.
