Well, sad times. The top of my olt 800 unscrewed and I've lost it somewhere. Could manage a pink, grey and Canada call out of that thing.

So for the time being I need to buy a pink and a greylag call. What's the best going at the moment?

which end have you lost? happend to me last year! so i have a spare end, only place you will get one is off the bay in the USA, you never know i might have the end you want!!!!

DJ Calls 800, an exact replacement for the Olt 800. Dave Jackson worked for Olt and has brought out the whole range.

Bushwear sell them, £25.

They do a good Greylag call too. Lost mine along with a Faulks Canada call and got a Nixon, but I think the Olt Greylag has the edge, a little more volume and doesn't choke up if you put a lot of air through it. I still have and use an original 800.

Olt 800 best ever made in my opinion.

Try USA eBay seen a few Genuine Olt 800 on there can't give advice on others as thankfully I've still got my Olt 800.

Good luck hope you get sorted ASAP

Thanks, bought my first one off the bay. Really liked it because it covered everything instead of having to carry 3 at the same time!

Eddie nixon solway call. Does both pink and grey.

Cheers, I was thinking of these as a replacement. Does he just make one 'general purpose' goose call? Rather than a specific one for pinks and greys?

Ah you're in the same boat then! I lost the top half that you blow into? I should have glued it in place tbh.

Cheers for the reply!

Thank you! So is that an exact replica of the one I lost basically? Should sound the exact same?

Cheers!

Yeah I lost the part you blow, was gutted it was the delux version of the olt 800, I did buy another from the USA.

I've looked on the bay in the USA and they is at least 6 on at the moment, if that helps .

Yes, it should be the same. I lost the tone bell from my 25 + year old Olt Sonderman 66 duck call, so bought the DJ Sonderman 66, it's exactly the same.

I have an olt800 from back in the late 70's wen me old man bought it he gave it to me in 92....I very rarely use it as I go mainly for pinks....so if u need it and it is same era think there is only one olt800 made...it was chewed at bottom by one of my pups back in the day but it'd still super better I think its taped up and sound....u could even put top onto yours....let me know cheers Robbie.

Eddie nixons solway call for, got a olt but can't seem to get the right tune out of it,, tried a dj for quite a few seasons (pink call) had a hammer for the greys,, good loud raspy call, but for a reliable all in one easy to use and you won't loose the end as there screw thread,,, it's got to be a solway call for both greys and pinks,, and managed whitefronts with it

I love my zink call for the pinks. I aren't great at calling and even I have managed to turn a good few in the past with it. Also love my OLT. Which was very kindly retuned by a member of this forum FOC after my young nephew got hold of it...it will be in use tomorrow morning for the first time this season!

How did it go with the re-tune?

Yes. Go for the Grey tuned one. You can get a 'wink, wink, wink' out of that. It's the notes more than the tone, as geese of the same species all have different voices to a degree.

I do find, though, that if you blow hard, the Nixon calls choke up.

Went to buy a solway call and it says tuned for pinks or greys? Can I get the appropriate sounds for both if I pick tuned for greys?

I was always loseing part of my Sodderman duck call, but amazingly always found it the next day ( gods only knows how once it was dropped on top of the sea wall on the walk back and once in long grass away out by a distant creek ) I did think about gluing the two sections togeather , but then of cause you cant retune it. However answered the problem with strong broad duck tape , just a few twists secure the two sections togeather and if I ever need to retune it it will be easy to undo the tape to get at the reed.

Just wrap a few turns of fine fishing line round the male part of the call and then twist it back into the female half keep adding line until the call is tight enough to not fall apart.
