ph5172
Just wondering....... As we are aware some Firearms Licensing departments are suffering major delays in processing renewals made 'in good time' (i have seen some that are saying 150 working days). The standard approach seems to be to issue a Section 7 until such time as the renewal is processed. My question is........ As you cannot purchase anything on a section 7, when your Renewed Certificate arrives does it start on the actual date of renewal or the anniversary that the renewal is due? In theory if it is the latter your certificate will only be 'valid' for the time remaining so you may have 'lost' up to 12 months or 20% of your time and you have been barred from the full benefits of a full certificate. On a side note, what would happen in that (possible) year you saw a gun you really wanted but were lumbered with a Sect 7?
Scully
I currently possess both my tickets which expire later this month, plus S7's for both FAC and SGC, which expire in May. I'm unclear as to when the renewed tickets are validated from ( as I received a S7 at last renewal but received my new tickets before old ones expired ) but you've raised a good point. Perhaps someone who has just received theirs could enlighten us both? I have paid a deposit for a firearm on the basis I possess a S7 in the past. Old Boggy
You`ve raised a good point there. My SGC ran out in February this year and I received (after insisting on one) a Section 7 temporary permit just prior to the expiry of the old one. The section 7 ran up to November this year. I received the renewal a couple of weeks ago and sure enough it was backdated to February, so yes, it would appear that they are backdated and you effectively lose the full benefit of the certificate during that interimperiod. This did not affect me as I was still able to purchase cartridges and was not looking to purchase another gun, but I can see that it may affect others. This was with Kent police, but would be interested if other forces work differently. OB
bullet1747
If they issue section 7 , why can't they issue the FAC in the first place
ph5172
Someone i was speaking to today has just had his certificate - backdated to the renewal.... 7 months ago He did point out they cashed the cheque 2 days after he posted his paperwork back!! I wonder if anyone wrote to the department saying their household was experiencing a delay in paperwork processing due to a sudden infux and the return would be made within the current lead time of 150 days what the outcome would be?
