On the look out for a AYA No 3 Magnum in good condition. Fed up with my Franchi 3 inch S\A I cant hit a thing with it!

Sorry to hear that Robert, Why not try a clayground visit see if you can identify the issue with fit, the stocks have shims dont they on them franchis now a days, could be an adjustment as you on the money.

Know what you mean about Them AYAs though i have a normal game no4 i like it..

Tony gun fit is not the issue I have had it fitted for me. I suspect the problem is its very light and I cant seem to swing in front of a bird and end up poking at it. I have a AYA magnm , but its about 40 years old and past its best with a few pits in the chamber. I am looking for a good condition gun with no pits in the chambers to sent it of to the proof house for 3 inch steel.

Penelope, I am hoping for something a little more local so I can look at the gun before buying, Wales and Cumbia are a long way from me , but if all else fails the Guntrade guns are an option.

You have no need to prof an AYA for steel they will handle normal 3 inch steel just fine, Your old gun should be ok if its sound condition, a few pits here and there if not effecting extraction of cases wont be a problem either, just run what you have already if its otherwise sound.

I know what you mean about light guns feeling light to swing, i have a Bredagrizly like a SBE mk1 its 26 inch barrel and very light it feels pokey if you know what i mean.

Get an 1187 if you can find one should get a swap for a nice one for that franchi see what they offer you.

Good balance and heft in a wildfowling gun is a handy thing to have and is why i like some of the guns i use more than the more commonly chosed guns out there.

If i were to recomend a one stop one gun to suit most people i would have to say remington 1100 and 1187s they are fantastic handlers and not just my opinion most seem to feel the same way about them is my experience.

I bought a no3 mag earlier this spring and had to have it cast and lengthened quite a lot. The stock was very low for me. Don't know whether it's standard AYA stock measurements, but the comb was very low. Always wanted an AYA mag, since the Elderkins adverts in the late '80s and early '90s. Happy with the gun now, but it's been a fairly expensive process getting it to fit!

Tony, my AYA is tight , but with a few pits in the chamber and I feel its not worth the risk of using 3 inch steel in it. It does have a few outings each year for the geese using 3 inch Tungsten and Hevi shot , but I would not be happy putting 3 inch steel through it without it being proofed which I have doubts of it passing and for geese I am fast running out of 3 inch Tungsten ( 5 shells left ). I like steel BBs , but these days the only makers still loading 3 inch BB are Remmies and Winchesters ( when you can find them ) which I would not put through a gun unless its steel proof. Have used 2 3\3 steel RC 34 gr loads in the AYA ,though on duck and its been fine indeed I rate them highly.

With retirement was coming this year I splashed out on a new gundog and semi auto to see my fowling days out and both have proved a problem.

You are most probably looking back at the enjoyment you had with your old A Y A Robert and you cant get it back with your present auto , resulting in losing confidence with the gun and the poor form when using it.

I have used a s x s all my life and if I looked back to what guns I had , I would say the gun that gave me the most enjoyment was my ole faithful Midland Gun Company 3" , 32 inch barrels , full choke both barrels , I used that gun when my enthusiasm was at its peak and I shot anything and everything with it , where it is now I haven't got a clue but if I had it in my arms now I would get as much satisfaction as if my mother and father came back from the grave . Good luck for finding the right gun .

If the piting is just the odd pit here and there in the chamber, not aclose dense localised area of pitting which would in effect constitute a area of errosion only then would i call it done and dusted.

Pits in bores can effect patterns if deep its been proven , but gentle pollishing out will improve even the odd bad areas, one area you need to look at is discolouration on the iner sides of both barrels this can be rusting insive the barrel ribs and many old guns meet their end with rust in this area.

Obviously i have not seen your Old AYA but it would have to be very bad indeed to render it unsuitable for use even with steel.

Im not acting reckless offering you this advice, im not a gunsmith by trade but i have bought and sold more guns in my lifetime than many in the trade proper, not so much as any form of income obviously but as a active shooter who likes a change.

If your old gun is typical of old well usaed No3s magnums and not an unussualy bad example i dare say it will be fine. Just my take on this, im just trying to save you your money thats all.

I too decided I was fed up with autos on the marsh I like to chose what choke and cartridge I fire ,autos don not give you that choice, I still use one for pigeon shooting though.

I have had this Matador 10 Teauge choked the barrels have shadow coating and I put everything through this . HW13 ,BBB anWP_20161005_07_26_43_Pro_zps2prkpr5r.jpgd duck loads . picture is of a flight this season.

They seem fine I have not patterned it , but I used it at the end of last season and had some nice high doubles on duck, before a firing pin broke ,so with repairs and the shadow coating I'm just using it but got to say I'm quite impressed very tight fit in the barrel .

How much does it weight Jules? I read somewhere that they were abit over 9 lbs? I'm getting rid of my kestrel 10, thinking about a matador instead as i miss that old 3 1/2" 12 side by side i sold to your bothers mate!
