Doc Holliday
Has anyone come across this? I have been using 2 kinds of pellets last season and the same this season, Air Arms Diabolo Field .22 (16 grains Domed) and Napier Power Target .22 (15.46 grains Flat). I generally use the flat heads for when it's lovely and still and the domed for when there may be a bit of wind about. I use an Air Arms S410 Carbine. I had this issue last year too and thought maybe I was doing something wrong, although I couldn't for the life me think what. Anyway, in preperation for doing the odd bit of shooting I zeroed the scope in at about 15 yards. I don't tend to go much over that as I've found I don't always get a clean shot which really makes me cross with myself. So, set up the scope with the flat heads. All ok, nice and consistent. Switch casettes over loaded with the domed heads and the first one is a little off mark. To be expected. Without making adjustment I aim at the same mark again, this time it is high and left. Not just a little but by more than a few inches in both planes. The gun didn't move. I load again, aim foir the same spot and this time it is off to the right but not so far, probably about 2 inches right and no more than an inch high. I tried a few more times and each time it seemed to go off to a different mark. I replaced the casette with the flats heads and they were nice and consistent. I was shooting in a very sheltered and secluded spot but even so, there was no wind around. I just find it a little disconcerting that this seems to be happening so I thought I'd ask if you guys have experienced anything like this? Doc. ditchman
hah...youve opened a can of worms there...........i was getting similar results and using 2 different pellets same weight...diabolo field & hunter........narrowed it down to "my technique" and trigger loading and inconsistant pull.........found there was no difference in beaten zone up to 30metres but after that the hunter pellet started to go off target at 40m...more so than the field pellet.......i can offer no advice ....other than to keep trying... subsonicnat
OK, We all get flyers,But have you thought the scope could be at fault??.. Is it tight, are the cross hairs solid.?,,.. Try locking the gun in good grip some how,at even shorter range 5 yds.?,,and see what happens then.. Just a thought mate..
Doc Holliday
I'm not sure what you mean by 'Is it tight?' and 'Are the cross hairs solid?'. Can you elaborate please. I always make sure the gun is in a solid setting and not likely to slip and I'm fairly sure the trigger pressure is consistent. I always inhaled deep, let it out slowly then squeeze gently until 'pop'. I'm very aware of the gun being steady and am 99% certain that it doesn't jump/move/slip. I'd have thought if the scope was at fault then the flat heads would act in a similar fashion.
ASunnyD
Tried a different domed pellet? I use superdomes and they work well for me but different guns like different pellets I hear

You have start somewhere,I use Diablo,,Pellet in pellet skirt,4 times out 5,and that is probably a flyer..if you flat heads are ok,it must be the pellets that do not like the gun.. Just trying to help,You have to start somewhere ,,My first port of call would be the scope,is it moving,,anway,Best of luck..
Elmer Fudd.
A bit of a curve ball, but I had a Gunpower Stealth that used to throw the more than the odd inconsistant pellet. I must have tried virtually every pellet available and fiddled with the scope but to no avail. Then as a last resort I tried it without the moderator and the difference was noticable. Turns out that for whatever reason the odd pellet was "clipping" the moderator. A trip to the workshop and the exit end opened up by a few thou and it turned out to be one of the most consistantly accurate rifles I ever had. Wish I'd never sold it. As I said at the start, a bit of a curve ball. I've also had a S410 which luckily wasn't pellet fussy. Edited October 11, 2016 by Elmer Fudd.
