Does anyone use one? Looking at upgrading my kit and there seem to be some good discounts on them at the moment. Any other rods to look at? #5 or #6 is what I'm looking for.

I came into a few quid last year and with some of the surplus bought a sage plus 9ft no. 5 for river work. I already have an old sage No 8 10ft 6 which I bought in the early 90's at a cost of £200 then. I've used this rod every year since for still water fishing and its as good as the day I bought it..

All I can say about Sage rods is " if Carlsberg did fly rods!"

One day all fly rods will be built this way... they are tremendous rods imo.

Treat yourself..but pick them up and find the action which suites you best.

I use a Sage One 9'6" #6 for most of my trout fishing. I've used Sage RPL/RPL+, SP, XP as well as many of the other premium brands and can safely say the One is the best of the lot. It's a fairly fast actioned rod, but remains a pleasure to cast. I use a Barrio SLX #6 line with it and find it superb.

Sage make lovely kit. So do a few others, Orvis for instance. Having worked my way through lots of kit I would just say say think about what lines you want to use and try and have a go with the rod. A floating line loads a rod in a very different way to say a slow sinker or a fast sinker. Eventually you will end up with rods for each weight and each type of line. Remember, you can never have too much kit!
