Well HS2 has started by the looks of it. I've had a call that a few farms will be destroyed in the new year and are purely awaiting the money in the bank.

After 25 years of shooting I've lost half of the ground I shoot now. I'm gutted .

I've lost 2 farms due to an idiot trouble making and telling porkies, my mate rents the land and believes me but the owner is a moron.

5 farms I shoot on are bought by HS2 .

My mate walked out on another after a problem at work .

Another mate has given up his lease as he's quit doing dairy/milk

I'm starting to run low and most of my surrounding land has HS2 on it.

I'm lucky to have a few private estates still with munty , fox, bunny etc but I'm starting to get concerned.

I also have a chicken farm luckily another friend.

And

Of course there is a provision for the free movement of the deer and other animals across the new tracks

Hope you've got some road (train) kill recipes

Much sympathy for you with this ludicrous waste of money

All the best

Of

I think the most upsetting part is the line is going straight through where my mates ashes were spread. I can see it's hurting his son.

He said he wants out before they start as its destroying him

Gutted for you and especially your mate as his dads ashes are on the site. I only have one small dairy farm I can shoot on and hs2 will pass through most of the fields on this farm eventually so I will loose my only perm but that's something I can resolve where as you're mates is far far worse. All this to tick a few boxes on a government agenda. TOTAL waste of money and countryside!

Sorry to hear this Nath,50 billion down the pan for what???.We dont use trains as theyre extortionate carp and unreliable ,who do they think,s going to buy tickets for this white elephant.Oh sorry the M.P,s will be able to on expense,s whilst we watch .Think how many nurses ,doctor,s,policemen, teacher,s etc this would pay for ,Your friend,s lives blighted by a goverment that doesnt care. The existing railways could be modernised with about 10 billion and the other could rectify the over the top cuts to public services and the countryside doesnt have to be destroyed along with people,s way of life

This goes through a mates back garden. The house is substantial and been in the family for generations . It is now worth a hell of a lot less.

It also gets you 20 minutes out of wherever it ends 20 minutes earlier, so it's not actually faster at all as you still need a 20 minute journey at the end to get to the same place.

Completly pointless especially as a freight line does the same thibg and s in place and inder ised, the money should be spent elsewhere.

Would get my vote if it would get the lorries of the roads but it won't so keep the money and spend it on the rail network we have which is far from the best service and needs considerable improvement.

The transport infrastructure roads, rail and air are a joke in this country, either poor service, poor quality, inadequate capacity and expensive to use.

All the issues are known but every government appears to want to delay any decision on spending to improve the situation or goes stupid like hs2 or the third runway at Heathrow which is probably the worst airport to expand.

I believe that such a big decision should get a public vote.

A referendum perhaps?

If we are going to spend such a huge amount of public money ,on a project that very few will want or be able to afford to use, then we deserve a say in the matter.

However ,I believe the powers that be know full well the results of such a vote.

I would get those petitions rolling and letters to MPs sent pronto.

I think some of you are missing the point. If they buy up the land at agricultural prices, build the white elephant, they then have a hell of a lot of spare land. Planning permission goes through, on the nod, and low and behold the value of the land trebles overnight. Sell to developers and bingo, loads of brown envelopes get passed around. Mega bucks made by the developers and SFA to the people who have had the land for "X" number of years. We, the prolls, don't get consulted, or get the benefit.

It happens time and time again. Round our way home owners lost 200ft of their gardens and were paid agricultural values. Planning permission went through on the nod and the land was sold to a developer, at building land prices. Nice big profit for the people responsible.
