In this country we have it drilled into us, safe backstop, safe backstop. Yet very often on the news we see people in other countries often celebrating by loosing off god knows how many AK47 rounds. I often wonder if Joe Bloggs down the road stops one.

some years ago , i seem to remember a figure of 3,500 deaths per year worldwide , being attributed to random fire , i havent got the foggiest idea where i got this figure from or if its accurate.

Remember that word. 17 Rem should not, but I have known the 25gr HP Hornady to do just that. 17HMR is said not to, but I have heard that troubling wheeehoooo a couple of times off hard stubble fields. Coming back through the brush and mesquite in Texas after dark and the Texan rancher lights up a racoon sat atop a large pecan tree. He tells my colleague to shoot it. Obviously he suggested maybe not because his rifle was a 7mm Remington magnum. "There ain't nothing but cows and hogs out there shoot that ####!!!! darn critter" There was not a lot left to examine after the 165gr Nosler Partition passed through on it's way to land in unknown parts of Texas I wouldn't like to guess how far away, but the ranch was about 40sq miles in size so probably on the same owners land. We all shuddered at the thought.

I seem to recall that people being struck by shots returning to earth was a problem when Baghdad was captured during the second Iraq war to the extent that there were public service announcements discouraging celebratory gunfire, which of course nobody listened to.

I can remember being in the shower block in Bashra palace when a round of celebratory fire came through the roof the camp was as one put it lightly peppered. No one hit but those in streets where not as lucky.

The sort of peasants that spend all their days shooting AKs into the air instead of working aren't probably H&S aware.
