turbo33 Posted October 23, 2016 Report Share Posted October 23, 2016 I had a call from one of the farmers yesterday, "they be ripping up my wheat!!" I think a lot of people underestimate the damage done by crows and rooks on newly sprouting cereal crops. Everywhere was evidence of the infant plants being pulled up. Each one obviously representing a head of grain that wouldn't make the dryers. Times that by how many 100 plus corvids are ripping up per minute for a couple of weeks! I got to the farm for 8:30. Couldn't start any earlier due to the proximity of a couple of fine country houses, presumably enjoying a lazy start with a continental breakfast! It was bright sunshine, and although very comfortable for me, the sun wasn't doing the full bodied any favours. I knew I had to get them in as soon as I could bag a couple. That done, things instantly improved. I had a handful of 30grm Carts in the bag, but the birds were a bit ranger to start and my success rate wasn't great. I switched over to my home loaded 32grm carts, which a mate described as "punchy" lol!! Worked a treat! I had to leave at 1pm, but it had just about dried up by then.
