New, old side by side on the Pheasants

Took a trip down to Mr Wabbit Bosher yesterday afternoon after falling for one of his guns for sale and acquired an old Midland gun co sxs with case. Cleaned her up last night and she looks lovely for an old girl and I couldn't wait to get out on our little shoot today. The day started off slow with nothing really coming near me apart from one Woodcock that I left as it was obscured by too many trees but it was a great day to be out doing what we love to do. After seeing a lot of birds being driven from the woods only to land in cover in front of me I knew when the beaters Eventually got near me I would get my chance at a few and that I did. Unfortunately just as they where getting to where I would normally take the shot the sun was blinding me so I had to let them go a little further than I'd like but I managed to drop a hen bird crossing left to right that dropped stone dead into the wood. I then preceded to go back into miss everything mode until the last drive where I would be snap shooting at birds coming over the woods with only a small gap above me to take a shot, well it took me nine shots but I dropped my second and last bird of the day which was like a rocket straight over head which tumbled into the trees behind. We finished with a bag of 27 so two really good days now for our little syndicate and one very happy new, old gun owner. 7FF32F6F-EE1B-4024-8DCF-55A9587B78CA_zps

The Midland looks like a lovely tool, well done on getting her.

I had a similar day today - a modest one in the Fens with 45 on our driven syndicate, only the second time out with a SBS for me, but the old Army & Navy did the trick and we put 10 head into the bag.

I'm not as quick getting the second shot off .... but with some old Winchester GB's, I didn't need to a lot of the time.

Enjoy!
