Driving into the Floods.

Just watched the reports on the floods in Bristol... one particular street the cars were abandoned and water was up around the windows.

Why do these people appear to be so stupid enough to drive into it and then turn round and say " ooh it was so scary the water was really deep "

Am I missing something here. ??

When I was doing recovery work I did lots of such recoveries where people often over estimated their 4x4s abilities.

Also some who'd driven through water and either stalled, stopped or had ingested water and consequently hydraulically locked up their engine, the flood water has then continued to rise further.

In more than a few cases One has to question the sense of some people ???

No you're not, we were taught by our elders that stupid is as stupid does, dam crackpots.

I was listening to the news report, apparently there was a beck further down the road that was blocked. When will the authorities keep these watercourses clear, and not turn up after the event to clean them out.

+1 How much flooding is blocked drains etc. Never seem to see Gully emptiers these days.

I kind of agree with you but there are more leaves around here blocking grids etc than anyone could be expected to clear.

Same old same old .

We`ve been saying that to the powers above for more than 10 years in our area,

Seems its cheaper to send out a man in a van to make an assessment on each event than it is to do contractual on-going pre maintenance..

.

Its not surprising that the Environment Agency are prepping to step away and disband from Flood controls and hand it back to local Council Authority.

.

Where there`s a blame ,,,,,,,,,,

I think that a lot of the Bristol cars was parked outside peoples houses I do not no why some of the owners did not just move them to higher land when the water started to rise. Another thing was people driving through floods much to fast I have to think that the driving test today should include a section on driving on ice and through standing water.

  • 4 weeks later...

I live near to Lindisfarne and we regularly have numpties who think they can drive through a 4ft wall of water to get on and off the island. Their stupidity knows no bounds.

The thing that really infuriates me is that the RNLI and other rescue services are called out and risk their own necks to save them.

Currently there is no way to fine these morons or get them to compensate the rescue services.

Rant over. Boh!
