Sure someone better informed shortly, but u used to apply to the cottage just before u get to the WWT reserve, tht was SNH's office down at Blackford?. Not sure how it works for vistitors now but used to get local 1's for season with a SAE.

He will not be allowed to shoot or borrow ur gun either as not got his sgc, the local wildfolwing assoc has tied up some areas of coastline to try and stop all the cowboys coming and taking potshots at miles high geese. Might be worth trying to contact them see if they do vistitor permits

Out of courosity where's ur mate shooting grey squirells in that are?, Fortunately not that many about and still plenty of red's

Looking for some advice please, I have a friend in Dumfries who has asked me up for some shooting, he doesn't have his sgc yet and is using his air rifle on grey squirrel culls but thinks you can easily obtain a permit for geese and ducks on the solway with a shotgun, any experience of this?

Dumfries & Galloway Council issue permits for Wigtown Bay at £25 for 4 weeks, not far from Dumfries.....http://macharsaction.com/services/wildfowling-permits/

Not sure exactly where, he lives near Moniaive and seems so bag a good few every time he ventures out, he did mention using other people's shotguns was different but said on a recent course he did they told.him he was allowed to use mine under my supervision but wasn't allowed to even pick a sec1 shotgun up from.the floor of it fell.down, maybe that's a general rule and not specific to the solway, to be fair I've had my cert for years but only shot clays with a shotgun before(lots of prey with air rifles in the past), he has asked me up for a social visit and I really fancied bagging a goose and maybe a few ducks for the Christmas dinner table this year but after reading the links most seem.to Imply I would have to join the basc, then add the cost of a permit and my fue to Dumfries and back and you can't shoot on Sundays so its looking to be a Hellishly expensive goose!

Also unless ur quarry ID is bang on mibee the solway is not the best place to try wildfowling or even for novices.

U can have around 70'000 of Barnacles floating about esp in around the Nith estuary, sometimes even joining in with skiens of pinks/greys.

Not many other estuaries will have that number of protected geese flying about that are similarish size to ur quarry, esp when the goose fever comes over u.

Trying to mind the terminology but t loan a shotgun under supervision u have to be the land owner or his 'servant' so basically the shooting rights holder or employed by him.

Think on clay grounds they have a section 11? or something which means u can loan shotguns, don't do much clay shooting

Thanks, my feo told me a few years back when I got my cert that I could supervise someone with no cert? I did question this and he said so long as im supervising them it was fine even on private land, not sure If this only applies to the UK or he mis-informed me? I would not want to fall foul of any laws or regs

Bit confused as to what you are asking? Have you got an sgc? A sgc allows you to purchase and own a shotgun and purchase cartridges. It has nothing to do with using one. Anyone can use one

Thats not true, the circumstances under which a non certificate holder can use a shotgun are quite limited and quite rightly so, Your reply is very misleading
