It's a 'plug and play' type and supposedly give better performance/fuel economy. I don't do high mileage, averaging 6500 per annum. My journeys are mainly around town and others average 60 mile round trips. Useless, disconnected it and reverted to normal. Having said that, my sons went to see that nice Mr Quantum so I followed suit when I changed the car. Now, this really does work - I noticed a change in the feel of the engine at 5 mph while still in the carpark. Had it fitted some 3 years and 30,000 miles back and no problems whatsoever. Just leave a bit earlier and chill Not so much quicker. There's many hills where I live, and having a bit more power to get up them, without having to change up and down the box would be nice. Go to a recognized remap agent and have it done properly , not overly expensive and give superb results. It makes the turbo spool sooner and puts more fuel down it. £40 off ebay and 4 years later with another 50k still going strong and goes well for the old 19tdi. Averages 53mpg on a run. Couldn't belive it. Also chipped a skoda octavia for a local taxi fella and that does mega milage. No problems just don't turn the boost up to high. Takes about half an hour to fit and another half hour test driving to get it how you want it. If I had a diesel that would be one of the first things I'd do 👍 Edit to say the audi I mentioned has 240 something k on the clock with minimal maintenance and it has done the car wonders. I was just looking at various quantum tuners for my car (SLK) and the price is broadly the same. there is one down here that quotes £250 on their website. Quantum say roughly £300 if you speak to them directly, though they don't actually do the tunes. I 'drive' it pretty tight on the road and I don't think the box gave me any advantage. Davyo Posted December 10, 2016 Report Share Posted December 10, 2016 (edited) Had a jag Stype 2.7 twin turbo d, chipped a few yrs back,wasn't cheap though and was done at a specialists with remap and rolling road.Wife just had her new car done when it was 6mths old by Mountune (so approved by Ford & keeps warranty intact) again not cheap but adds 79bhp.Mates ST cant touch it. GingerCat Posted December 10, 2016 Report Share Posted December 10, 2016 A proper remap on any forced induction engine yields results particularly turbo diesels, often the mixture is somewhat leaner so the fuel economy is the same or better as well. I have no idea about the tuning boxs but for the money I'd get a remap, especially if you've changed anything else such as the filter/exhaust/cams. Do declare the mod to your insurers though, canny ones will check the ecu after a write off or accident and if not declared the insurance is invalid. Davyo Posted December 10, 2016 Report Share Posted December 10, 2016 (edited) I was about to ask if folk declare the work to the insurance company, and if so how much extra they have ramped up the policy price?The engine mod and remap made very little differance £30 mainly because its manufacture approved and carried out by Ford and not aftermarket mod.Im getting her car when she gets the shape ST.The Jaguars however was aftermarket and if i remember rightly the insurance jumped up abut a ton'ish.Was still worth it though.
