Removing carbon from an extension tube.

Does anyone know how to remove the carbon build up on a Nordic Extension tube. It builds up just in front of the muzzle of course. I've tried Hoppes and Bench rest solvent and Parker Hale 009 solvent but it seems I would have to scrape the Extension tube to the carbon build up and that doesn't seem appropriate. Any ideas?
