No need to say what club just what part of Norfolk u r from. I am from near sunny Hunny (west Norfolk maybe) and I have had prob the best wildfowling season in 3 years. The widgeon came early and as always the teal are there. Not me but a few greys have been bagged so I am still hoping for that odd pink. anser2 Posted January 8, 2017 Report Share Posted January 8, 2017 (edited) Plenty of duck on the coast , but its been dry this winter and few splashes on the inland marshes resulting in far fewer duck inland. As for geese the less said about my goose season the better! But there have been plenty of pinks about if you are in the right area , but some famous marshes seem to have almost lost them. When you say this have been your best season in three years , do you mean you have been fowling for three years and this have been your best season for duck in the last three years , or have you been a number of years and this current one has been your best one yet ? If you have only been going for three years , you might well by now be learning about tides , wind , feeding habits , full moon , flight lines and learning the way wildfowl react in different conditions concerning weather and tides , this would then put you in a better position to put a few more duck in the bag so making this a better season than your previous ones . I wouldn't say this season is any better than other years , in fact I would say up to now with the weather being mild and most days dull and still conditions this season as far as I am concerned is only average to below average , I have had a few good flights but up to now none of them would qualify for the flight of the season and with only three weeks of the inland season left I would agree with motty that I very much doubt that this will be a vintage season . Was asking for two reason motty, 1) just to see how people's season are goin (just trying to be friendly) and 2) we have had the widgeon in big numbers so early this year I didn't know if it was the same for everyone around West Norfolk etc. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Well observed Marsh Man it is indeed my 3rd year wildfowling but as above the widgeon this year seem to have come a lot earlier than they have they last two years. Also everything you have said above I do believe I am still learning but am enjoying every minute of it. It has been a bumper year for duck, and I have taken advantage. The freezer is full of birds, and that is without the ones I have already eaten or given away. Riptide I'd agree entirely on the fresh blood riptide. It'd be interesting to see the figures of under 30s compared with the over 30s that wildfowl! I would say i've had a very good season, it's not over yet and i dare say with a little bit of skill and luck i may put another duck or two in the bag before then!
