dodeer
I send a lot of money abroad each year and for the last few years have used TransferWise. Saves me about £1200 each year compared to Barclays. Boring post I know but so easy to use and if sent to Europe and before 10am then normally arrives same day
Jaymo
We use Moneycorp ( yes, the ones that give terrible rates for idiots who do last min currency exchange at Airports) , for the Corporate and Private clients the rates can be very good. Also Royston at PureFX can give a rate that is only 1% different to the 'spot rate'

amateur
If you do multiple small transactions in a single currency, it is worth setting up a currency bank account. We have held a euro holiday account at our UK bank for many years and saved a mint on exchange charges - we bought the euros when it was about euro1.50 / £1 and it costs us nothing to run.
