Wolds Pigeons

Jdog kindly invited me to shoot some pigeons the day after the PW shoot on Wednesday.

On Monday evening Jdog briefly disappeared from the pre-shoot dinner. He returned having received information as to the whereabouts of some pigeons while in the gents toilet talking to a farmer :whistling:

I woke up yesterday with a slightly sore head following the shoot to find my car wouldn't start, naturally I took the manly approach and called the AA, ordering a Full English in my hotel while awaiting rescue. Alas, when I phoned Jdog to tell him I would be late he informed me my situation was not nearly grave enough to delay pigeon shooting and that he would be on his way down to jump start my car immediately. I am happy to say he was right and it was only the battery.

We arrived and saw a good amount of pigeons flighting between two sets of woods, some stopping on the rape between them.

There wasn't much wind but we did both get the chance to snap shoot a couple of nice birds each. We finished the day with about half a dozen all efficiently retrieved by Jdog's dog Jasper. I found it very difficult to shoot through trees preferring to position myself under a small gap in the canopy. Jdog had no such issues and we were able to chew the fat for a couple of hours with great views across the Wolds.

We got back to his house and read some of the abusive messaged posted by our fellow guns from the shoot day before while tucking into some bread and soup. It was the perfect day to clear ones head after the shoot dinner the night before.

A cracking finish to a brilliant few days.

Are you sure it was the battery or was it just struggling to move with the weight of all the cartridges you had in there ?!

Haha very good!

He forgot to put his battery on the radiator!

It didn't look a good day when I got up on Wednesday morning and was very foggy on the way over to Horncastle and beyond, not clearing much until the outskirts of Boston.

There wasn't much wind but luckily the fog held off. Glad you both got back safely. Cracking couple of days!

Well done, JDog rescuing OJW from the AA ( he should have contacted the Automibile Association not the AA due to the drinks the night before ) you then hot wired his car and took him into the woods to teach him the ancient art of roosting. Ollie it is difficult to ignore the branches as you think that the shot will not penetrate the roof canopy but the Master lead by example again.
