Went out today for a couple of rounds of skeet. Was ok fun and shot pritty well scoring 21/22 but on the way home I thought well If I was out shooting pigeons I could have put that £12 into another 75 cartridges meaning I could have shot 125 cartridges instead of the 50 that I did and had just as much fun but also serving a real purpose making those few hours allot more rewarding

I hate clay shooting, I'm terrible, get stage fright and loath the sucking of teeth and people telling me how to shoot.

I'd sit in a hide, and shoot nothing in preference to clay shooting!

It's a point but equally you could have sat in a field for 6 hours and barely had a shot. Maybe you're ok with that though?

They're different disciplines of the same art. Both have merits and negative sides. Personally I enjoy both.

Although on a freezing cold day like today I would rather go and shoot a few clays than sit freezing my nuts off in a field in the vague hope a few pigeons will come along.

With pigeon shooting you're always rolling the dice, maybe you have a good day, maybe you don't. With clay shooting of any discipline you are guaranteed to do some shooting but you have to pay extra for that privilege.

I shot thousands of clays back in the seventies, but still enjoy sitting in a hide or standing in a wood waiting for the roost to start far more. Clay shooting cannot replicate the fun had walking up behind a couple of good pointers for instance. In my view, one is hunting and one is sport, totally different. We are however all different. The main thing is get out there and enjoy, this ain't a rehearsal, time flies believe me.
