Guerini Guy Posted February 3, 2017 Author Report Share Posted February 3, 2017 Hmmm - and the Tonker man wins a prize - indeed three shots with the camera on this occasion. There are thousands of them. The Brents are causing huge damage, but farmer was late applying for a licence. Expecting it to come through next week, but will probably only be for a dozen or so. But we'll at least get those sorted once I have a photocopy of the licence. For now just doing my best to help by setting some rope bangers, and using rockets and lasers. Guerini Guy Posted February 13, 2017 Author Report Share Posted February 13, 2017 Yes they can ONLY be shot under license as they are normally fully protected, even during the wildfowl season, but an individual farmer may apply for a "limited" license in the pursuit of avoiding extensive crop damage, but my understanding is that the license WILL SPECIFY the number of Brent that may be shot under that particular license. I also believe that this license has to be applied for on an annual basis (the farmer on my perm was late applying but has now done so as the Brent are still hitting hard), but I have never heard of anybody that has been given a license for very many. The largest I have heard of is 42 I'm sure there must be larger licensed numbers around, and it would be interesting to hear what numbers others are aware of? If you shoot them under license then you can still eat them, but, I have been told they are not good eating and very tough, but never tried one myself. If others think they are good to eat, then I would like to hear about it? 5 to 15 is normal for numbers allowed to be shot.First time licence is for 5 even if you have 2000 of Brent doing damage. Just because a land owner or estate has a licence to shoot Brent they by Law cannot give permission to people to shoot Brent. The License is issued to named fields and a named shooter. It's not a simple case of farm/estate get licence then let any Tom **** and Harry bang away all over. I've had a Brent licence every year for the past 40 odd years. As for eating i personally don't even after laying in a vehicle for 5 minutes they smell rank. One person i know thinks they are OK Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
