Discovery 2 door lock problems.

So. I've had this disco 2 years now. On the odd occasion uv opened it with the key it's been fine.

I let my brother it a couple off week ago but I had my key with me at work so he took the spare. That one didn't work on the fob to open it so he used the key. All was fine. He locked it with the key but when he came to open it again it wouldn't open. And it seemed like the key wouldn't go all the way in. AA came out and pulled door top out and put some rod in and pressed the central locking button to open it. When I got home I tried my key in and that to would only go half way in and wouldn't open. But it did with the fob. Tonight I went to the shop. Got out locked it went into the shop and when I came out it wouldn't open. The red light on the fob was working though. So I walked home and got a spare battery. Walked back down and the ******* thing still wouldn't open. Anyone else had this problem. With fob and the lock it's self not working with the key???

You may have to re link the fob to the car and that could be a problem if the key lock isn't working.

you could keep pressing the unlock button and see if that will unlock it or try another door..

the fob receiver in the roof can cause problems with unlocking as can the fuse box

If you lift the bonnet there is a letter box sized opening on the passengers side under the scuttle panel. The foam goes around this and lets water in, only small amounts. Possibly it's getting to the brain? Mine did this and it caused no end of problems.

think is, i dont think it was the battery, as the red light on the fob was still working, and as with a tv remore, when the batterys are going you get some warning, this worked when i went into the shop and didnt when i came out.

anyway, called the AA out this morning at 9am, and they showed up at 9.10am, he tried to get the door open with the usual ways but none worked as it was dead locked, tried to get key in ignition on a thick wire through top of the door, so then he was left with 2 choices, smash a window or drag wiring loom out through the 5mm gap between the drivers door and the wing, and as he said in 9 years hes never not got in to a car or had to smash a window, hour hour later he was in, took an hour and half in all,

for some reason i think its the sensor in the roof lining, last time i took it to a garage to get done, but this time i thought id have a go at it myself, managed to get all the side panels off and the roof down without having to take all the sun visors off, got the sensor out, going to try get it checked tomorrow, or maybe just buy a new one and see if its that, not looking forward to putting roof back together :no:

Didn't think it would be the sensor!! I have just had to replace the alarm in mine it was doing all sorts of weird things.

Not a single problem since, the central locking was so hit and miss. All the doors would open at different speeds, immobiliser would kick in, worst of all the alarm would always choose to go off in the middle of the night!!

Had an after market system fitted and 12 months on very pleased!! I don't have to do the Irish jig to get the fob to work anymore, I had to be so close to the vehicle for it to work.

My last disco did the same, just removed the alarm and Imobiliser on that one but kept the remote door locking.

If you cant open the door with the key i'd have a look at the door lock assembly. I don.t know how this system works but if the

lock assembly is not working properly will it not have an affect on the central locking system... holding a micro switch or rod in the wrong position

just a thought.

iv never had any problems with the central locking before in anyway, nor my alarm, is there anyway you might have to match the fob to the new receiver?

the key hasnt gone in the door lock for a long tome now, central locking has worked fine untill now, so i dont think the 2 are related, although i do need to take the lock off and have it sorted.

if you want to sell the antenna. i have a nanocom if you want it pluging in and the alarm to disarm on the key

PM'd

thanks guys

Disconnect the battery and then remove the passengers side fuse box taking out all the fuses in order.

Then remove the grey plastic case be very careful this is the idm it is linked to the bcm. Look for corrosion or gunge, that's why I asked if the passengers side was wet.

This is what I was told to look for and the chap was spot on

quick update chaps, i tried everything my capability's would allow, bloke who was supposed to come today never showed up, so its gone over the road to land rover garage, he put the nanocom on it quickly as he didnt have no time today, he said the key wasnt sending a signal i think, when the key was in the ignition the machine said no transmission from blipy, or something like that, he will look further into it tomorrow, and i called farnel land rover and they can make me a new lock/barrel to match my key for £100, sound like its not going to be a cheap job :unhappy::unhappy:

i went to farnels land rover garage after work to try get a code for my key,as it turned out it could of been that, but they said land rover never stored them and id need a new key, so i went back to land rover garage over the road from my house and told them,id been alerted to a second hand key on ebay so i showed him the key on but as it said it had no code he said he wouldnt be able to program it in, farnels wanted £120 for a new key, the garage near me said £55 with all codes, it will just need cutting as it comes as a blank, my thought was that i could just use the key bit from my old key, either way it should hopfully be sorted in the next couple of days,

only problem i have now is when i was putting roof lining back in and got to the light in the boot it sparked when i was putting it back on as id got it the wrong way round to start, now its taken all my interior lights out, the clock, stereo and my parrot hands free thing, checked all the fuses but they all look ok.
