EELL Beretta problem.

My Beretta 687 diamond pigeon in EELL grade has fired sub 500 shots. It started double firing and i took it to a local gunsmith who diagnosed a broken sear tip. He built the sear up and reprofiled it as beretta GMK wanted a small fortune for a new one.

I lost confidence in the gun and never used it but on its first outing it would lock the second barrel out just like the safety had come on but i dont think it did. It seems to do it more when the bottom barrel is selected first and i have noticed that the second barrel will fire when dry firing with snap caps which it never did before as it has the inertia system. GMK were of no help even though the gun had fired only 500 cartridges. Any ideas or should i send it back to the gunsmith?

Curious but how much did they want . If you bought the gun from a dealer then it needs to go back ,but as you have taken it to a third party he may well be within his rights to refuse or charge for any remedial work . Beretta triggers can be a little tricky and there are several causes but to be honest without having a good look anything said would be guess work . I do not or want to know who did the work but I would suggest another gunsmiths opinion should be sort .

I see one of my questions answered whilst typing this .

I would send it to gmk.you could spend a small fortune having bits rebuilt by local people.maybe ask gmk if it comes back repaired from them do they give a warranty on the fault not showing again and if it does will they repair free of charge.i had a similar problem with my dt10 double discharge.it went back to gmk they replaced the trigger unit and the safety/ selector unit.no problem since.mine was and still is under warranty though.

Although GMK might seem to be a bit mean on this one The problem that they have to deal with is the fact that this product is out of guarantee and a third party has done a repair to a critical operation part. They have no knowledge of what or how this repair has been done and how the parts have been adjusted. It is a critical operation part that has a fault. In the case of it being in the trigger mechanism of a shotgun makes it even more critical. Unless this is sorted out to a safe working standard then the weapon can't be trusted. How you go about this is up to you.

PS How have GMK come up with £800 to import a small part? I know that there would be the fitting and adjusting cost but £800 is a bit off the clock in comparison to the cost of the new gun.

Yeah but that's just for a raw casting. They have got to take it too bits, finish, adjust, gold plate it and all at triple time rates. That must take it up round the £800 mark + all of the other costs. I think that someone is taking the Mick with this.

£800? someone is having a laugh at your expense . Dont care who they do work for thats not a joke . I have been in the trade a long time and and although now retired I can not see how a new beretta sear including fitting and testing should come to more than £50.00.

If indeed that was the fault it is one I have never come across .
