Has anyone noticed that the above company has changed its selling strategy on its TV advert from -:

'get a better deal on your car than any trade-in'

to -:

'You may not get a better deal but why waste your valuable time'

or words to that effect.

I think that this is as a result of bad reviews, complaints and general misrepresentation.

Early last year I thought that I would give them a try and went online to give an honest and 'warts and all' description of my 3 door Suzuki Grand Vitara. The online valuation that I received seemed pretty good. However, when I took the car to one of their 'offices', a portacabin in a supermarket car park, the initial valuation was quickly eroded with each small stone chip on the front reducing the value by £100 per chip ! Their final 'That's our offer, take it or leave it' with no room for negotiation was therefore not accepted. It appeared to me that the salesperson was on a percentage commission basis on the amount knocked down from the online valuation.

I assume, rightly or wrongly, that any cars bought go to auction and that's how they make their profit.

I ended up trading my car in at a Suzuki garage getting a far better deal than the original online valuation received from webuyanycar.com. I could have made a big mistake by using them.

My advice to anyone who does decide to use them, get your car valetted and spend a few bob getting any chips attended to, so giving very little excuse for devaluation on visual inspection.

I have moved a couple using this route or we want your car .com

It would seem 1or2 companies online are actually the same.

I usually use them a benchmark to gauge trade in price and some times they come in better overall.

They all give you a good online figure then knock you for many varying reasons

They are rip off merchants. Preying on the unknowing.

quite right

my mate who is off to dubia...needed to get rid of his 07 range rover vogue V8 110.000 miles...went on "that website" and was quoted £7000.........he sold it privately later that week for £12,000....................

It's because you do in my experience get a better deal. The thing with WBAC is I've never getting a better on line quote from them that has beaten or even equaled a part exchange price from a dealer. Then their online quote is just the start of it,mate took his in for appraisal after he thought their quote was fair.Although he'd been open and honest with the condition of the car he was soon looking at -£700 of original quote with a lot of hard selling slaver to get him to accept.

The thing is that a car has several values dependent on circumstances. The bench mark is the Trade Price which is what the car would fetch if sold to a trader or to the trade through auction. That depends on individual interpretation and where in the country you are; a Subaru Forester would normally be worth more in somewhere rural like Nth Yorkshire than inner cities. Colour, trim and specifications can add or detract from the Trade Value.

When a company make you an offer fr your car against another car they will base their figures on two factors; the Trade Price plus any discount they might offer to a cash buyer with no trade in. If you are paying for the new car with the dealer's finance company you might get a bit more allowed for your trade in as they make a commission on finance deals.

Companies like webuyanycar.com will base their price on the Trade Price adjusted for the region of the country less their anticipated fees. You won't get any more by 'cutting out the middle man' as they claim because they are the middle man. Same with those large car dealerships offering to buy any car. They will not give you any more than the Trade Price that a PX deal would be based on.

The best way to dispose of a car can be by selling it at an auction. You will need to give it a good clean and make it as saleable as possible. A lot of cars at auctions are now bought by private buyers who will outbid the traders sometimes by a large margin if there are two or more people wanting to buy the car. But, it is important to put a reasonable reserve price on the car to avoid it being sold on the cheap by unscrupulous auction staff.

A few people have mentioned keeping the second key on you when visiting any we buy your car gaff, as they have a tendency to wander off leaving you stewing over a low offer.

A few of my mates have been asked to go and retrieve keys after the 'inspector' had forgotten about the seller stood in the car park

My belief is as follows,

All these companies WBAC and varieties thereof are trade buyers who sell vehicles onto the motor trade by way of auctions,

Consequently they buy cars at trade prices to enable them a margin to sell on at a profit, People shouldn't be surprised if they don't get offered 'retail value' for their pride n joy.

As for buyers knocking(negotiating) the offer price down, Doesn't everyone try and do the same when making a large purchase be it a car or house, or boat etc etc

I sold a Subaru Forester to "We want any car"

The quoted price seemed good and I went along expecting to drive it back home after being offered a much lower price.

I was amazed when I was offered £100 more than the internet quote. That was almost a £1,000 more than Glasse's trade price.

Some you win but most you seem to loose.

Dealt with them once, got more than I was offered as a trade in and less than I tried to sell it for privately.... but you can only sell if you have a buyer and I didn't have one.

They do the job if you need rid of a car or van, theres no obligation to sell to them.

Agree with uk poacher. Cant see the point in online car buyers just bang it through auction after all that's were most cars end up and were most cars on independent forecourts come from.

The problem with using an auction like BCA ,is the charges.

Entry fees ,commission and indemnity plus other bits and bobs you may end up taking out.

You could be looking at £150 if your car doesnt sell, and depending on value eg £5000 worth of car ,up to £500 worth of charges knocked off.

The reason why WBAC has had to change its advertising blurb ,was due to a very misleading 'We can save you money' of x amount ,basing that assumption on heresay.

Extremely misleading, and a clear breach of guidelines ,why it was allowed to run so long Ive no idea ,and is made so much worse by James Cordens condescending voice over

I was told by the rep from the dealership who I bought a New car from no too long ago to put my 12year old heap on Ebay. He could only give peanuts and I would get more by putting it on there than anything any trade would offer. Also a lot less hassle than Auto trader etc.

Auto trader still seem to allow a lot of Arfur Daly scammers to turn people over. WARNING.. do not buy from anything but a proper Dealership in Accrington if Buying . There's a dodgy outfit there that sells on auction cars usually unroadworthy that they put through dodgy MOTs.

If selling you just invite a lot of tyre kickers and people tryong to get one over on you calling.

Put your car on Ebay. Good description of it set a low reserve and let the market do it's job. You may be pleasantly suprised.

We Buy Any Car make money by putting your car through the block, dealers buy at the block and will rarely pay over book, work it out yourself.

We pay book for most vans minus genuine problems such as biggish dents, war damaged keys and paint needed, sparse history means abuse so expect it back  , might be worth a pm when it comes time to trade in or sell.

Pleasant experience from WBAC too. Sold my wife's mint condition quashqai top of the range 4x4 diesel. Couldn't sell privately despite dropping the price to only a few hundred quid over the WBAC price and also rang all the local dealers seeing if they wanted to make an offer on it. When I took it to WBAC, I had spent a morning valeting it and polishing it so it looked presentable. The guy took a quick look and gave me the online quote price without quibble.

Some of the **** that people take along is bound to get reduced in price as the dents/scuffs etc means it will go through the auction at a lower price due to the lower condition grading it is given ( BCA has a scale of 1-5)

All cars under 10yrs old Going through BCA also have an AA inspection which might often find issues that WBAC don't detect and will impact on selling price too.

Each to their own.

My experience too with the two I have sold through them. Both times they said that the car was in top condition and as described.
