Lincolnshire RFD loses licence

Yeah it's not an RFD as we know it. There were a commercial weapons testing company. I think it will more likely be a case of paperwork not tallying up. There was no arrests just removal.

Police and Home Office officials have executed a warrant to remove weapons from the former RAF Faldingworth site primarily occupied by explosive test facility Skydock. Following the Home Office revocation of the Section 5 (Firearms Act) licence held by the Registered Firearms Dealer at Faldingworth, a joint operation involving Lincolnshire Police and military firearms experts is underway to execute a warrant to seize firearms being stored on the site and which are subject to the Home Office Revocation Order. This will take a number of days to complete. The Home Office issue and revoke S5 licences under the Firearms Act. Lincolnshire Police is leading the operation. Deputy Chief Constable of Lincolnshire Gary Knighton says there is a significant amount of work to do on the site. Following the revocation of the S5 Licence by the Home Office, we are seizing the weapons subject to the revocation to maintain their security and ensure public safety. No one is under arrest. Skydock has explosive testing facilities for the military, bomb proof bunkers and firing ranges, which can test 40mm machine guns. The site has in the past been the subject of complaints from locals about noise.

Deputy Chief Constable of Lincolnshire Gary Knighton says........... and ensure public safety.

Yet again - throwing in the 'Public Safety' bomb, their favourite all encompassing blame avoidance position. Whatever the exact reason for this move it's hard to credit that there was any risk to the public.

Sorry for the rant but I just wish the police would do the job the people actually want them to do as opposed to picking and choosing their own role whilst comfortably ensconced in pleasant offices on a trading estate miles away from the town centre and of course the public whose safety they claim to be protecting.

There's an element of truth in this I feel. If the site did not meet the obligatory safety and security requirements, would it have been granted the licence in the first place?

Surely this is just some sort of paperwork issue with the stuff not tallying up on paper. It ain't exactly like the normal RFD. Could be like they have container loads of disused superseded military weapons. Up to 40 mm !!! That haven't been logged properly. I wonder where they are going to take the stuff and do anything with it seeing that it appears to be a bit specialist. I can envisage a situation where there are container loads of stuff and seeing as it is going through the crusher next week and not bothering to get each weapon out and writing each piece onto the certificate and then writing It off as distroyed/distructed. Interesting.
