Ammo for 223

Recommended Posts

I know the issue of which ammo is often a pointless debate as it differs from gun to gun, however I have a new CZ527 223 American on it's way and I'd be interested to hear what others using this particular gun use in theirs. It is a 1-9 twist. My main use will be longer range rabbit, so I'd prefer to use lighter, flatter shooting ammo, if the 1-9 can live with it.

1.12 will be best suited to lighter bullets but it really is a real trial and error, my Tikka lite 223 is 1.12 and shoots 55gr very accurately, not bad with 60gr as well. For the longer range bunnies maybe the 1.9 shooting slightly heavier bullets would be more predictable that shooting light and fast over range plus you can shoot some heavier bullets should you ever need to shoot small deer.

Buy some privi or S&B and use it to set up your scope and zero everything in, settle your barrel etc. Clean regularly with copper remover.

Who knows? your rifle might love it with a passion and that's you sorted. If not its really trial and error after that. Keep a notebook

I hope to take up reloading as a hobby after I get going with the 223. Looking forwards to experimenting to see what suits best.
