Beretta gun slip zip.

I have a Beretta gun slip which is about four years old. Until recently I considered it to be good value but the zip has now given in and it appears is irreparable.

Does anyone know where I can get a new zip fitted?

As a comparable my Brady gun slip is twenty years old and is still going strong. The only problem with it is that my semi auto will not fit in it.

Mate of mine has the same slip his didn't last long either and the lining ripped to bits and kept getting caught on the front sight.

Don't think it would be a hard job for a seamstress or she'd let to refit a zip. You can buy rolls of zip you cut to length and clip the ends.

This zip repair kit might do it http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/361899255809?_mwBanner=1

Her good self has just taken a look .

She said , its easy enough to repair , she would charge a tenner to do the repair , plus parts and postage , she said that if she has any suitable zip , you can have it for free.

If you decide that youd like lin to do it , just let me know jdog ,

Interesting. I gave a gunship to a mates daughter over three years ago ( who worked as a saddler ) and I still haven't got it back. She claimed it couldn't be repaired, even though I claimed someone must be able to source gunslip zips for obvious reasons!

Hope you get sorted.

They can usually be repaired , it just isnt usually worth it . to buy a single zip for a gunslip can often cost more than a new gunslip , then add up to two hours labour costs .

Lin does lots of repairs either free , or as cheaply as possible for pw and sd members , we usually lose money on the repairs to be honest , but it comes back in future sales.

Thats the conclusion I came to; I just think there's something desirable about a well worn gun slip! 😊

Thanks for that, and good for you. 👍

The wife has just replaced two zips on our gun slips, we got two zips of ebay, they are the type that are used on caravan awning, took her a while, but now sorted, a better zip than the ones that were on, like others have said after all the cost it may be just as well to get a new slip, unless someone is handy. hope you get sorted soon.

Though I haven't worked it myself my parents were in the rag trade and my mum is an experienced sample machinist.

I don't think its as simple as if you can fix one slip then they can all be fixed the same way. The materials determine the machine required to do the job, so my mum for example couldn't work on that zip because her machine, needles etc just wouldn't cope with those materials. Also it may be that when that zip was put on in the first place that it was done before the other side of the gun slip was stitched together so the two sides of the slip sat flat on the machine (hope that makes sense), so if the machinist has to take the whole slip apart in order to stitch new zip in that it becomes a much bigger job than one which can be stitched without dismantling the case. Al that said, comparing a jacket zip replacement with a gun slip replacement is like comparing apples and pairs, both jobs are very different. Is it repairable, definitely yes, it's the labour required which will determine if it is feasible.

Years ago there was a small workshop near Chartham that used to be able to re-zip slips for cheap money but I have all but given up on bothering with gun slips anymore, it doesn't matter whether they're for shotguns or rifles they all seem to break within a couple of years. Surely there must be a bullet proof zip in existence by now !
