Beretta gun slip zip.

Thats the conclusion I came to; I just think there's something desirable about a well worn gun slip!

Thanks for that, and good for you.

i like old leathery things myself , thats why i married lin :whistling:

Though I haven't worked it myself my parents were in the rag trade and my mum is an experienced sample machinist.

I don't think its as simple as if you can fix one slip then they can all be fixed the same way. The materials determine the machine required to do the job, so my mum for example couldn't work on that zip because her machine, needles etc just wouldn't cope with those materials. Also it may be that when that zip was put on in the first place that it was done before the other side of the gun slip was stitched together so the two sides of the slip sat flat on the machine (hope that makes sense), so if the machinist has to take the whole slip apart in order to stitch new zip in that it becomes a much bigger job than one which can be stitched without dismantling the case. Al that said, comparing a jacket zip replacement with a gun slip replacement is like comparing apples and pairs, both jobs are very different. Is it repairable, definitely yes, it's the labour required which will determine if it is feasible.

this is bang on the money :good: .

Years ago there was a small workshop near Chartham that used to be able to re-zip slips for cheap money but I have all but given up on bothering with gun slips anymore, it doesn't matter whether they're for shotguns or rifles they all seem to break within a couple of years. Surely there must be a bullet proof zip in existence by now !

you can get zip that is very very strong , and will last for a very long time , unfortunately , it doesnt look and feel great , and costs an absolute fortune.

It be the modern throw away world im afraid i "inherited" a Beretta gunslip sheep skin lined from a friend who retired .It,s over 25 years old and still tickety boo.I suppose like a lot of things the name on the label is now made in china for a price.Mel,s mrs Lynn does bostin stuff and its very well made so it,s a great offer from her, atb

very true , and thankyou for the kind words.

You could just stitch the new zip over the old one and then cut the old plastic parts of the zip off.

its an option , but still easier said than done , and wouldnt look great to be honest.

Timpsons did mine a few years back - they sent it away and it took a couple of weeks from memory, but job was a guddun, seem to recall it was less than £20.

top value , weve spent that much just for a zip in the past.

sounds like a good offer from mel b3 mrs

I should have availed myself of the services... instead I paid for napier to ruin my slip awful job and they burnt a hole in the lining which Jc they refused to do anything about

Will never buy Napier products again.

Industrial sewing machines would eat that job..

An ordinary machine would be no good..

My large coat was unpicked and another brass zip inserted,it was 20 years old,Dry cleaned when required. And is still good 8 years on..

according to her good self , a lot of it will need to be done by hand, shell use the original stitch holes(it looks a right mess if you leave two sets of stitch holes), and use a twin needle technique , you use two needles and thread at the same time , to produce the same stitch as a machine.

When I returned home early this morning from a few days away the gun slip, expertly wrapped in black bin liners was waiting for me.

What a great job Mrs mel b3 has done. The zip has been replaced and other bits and bobs which were deteriorating in condition have been replaced too.

I am not sure if Lin (Mrs Mel b3) makes a habit of repairs like this. If she does her work comes highly recommended.

thankyou for your very generous words jdog.

jobs like this are just to help shooters out to be honest , its always a shame to throw away a cherished piece of kit that can be repaired and used for many more years.
