HDAV
Anyone use a chimney balloon we have a purely ornamental fireplace (open) and he'll of a draught/draft (sp?) coming down it, a balloon seems ideal but are they any good? Do the deflate and fall out?

wandringstar
no, you want to cap it off if its not in use, you can buy a heavy ceramic 'ventilation only' cowl that sits straight into the pot, or some roofers will fashion you one out of lead and cap it that way. A balloon is a wire mesh that sits in either chimney or gutter spouts to stop either birds or leaves, it wont stop a draft, and is nothing like a balloon as we know it. old man
Tip from the past, don't stop all air flow up the stack?
figgy
Have the pot capped with a vented cap. Chimneys need to breathe. Here you go you can fit yourself http://www.chimneycap.co.uk Edited February 22, 2017 by figgy
ehb102
We have a chimney balloon. Love it! It doesn't deflate and fall out. Ours is a working fire though. Edited February 22, 2017 by ehb102
