A Cheeky afternoon's decoying

Work is a bit quite at the mo so I thought I would take advantage of this dry bright windy day, had a few errands to run this morning but I was on route to my permission by 11:30, it's not far so I was there for 11:45.

now this rape field access is gated and I don't have a key but today it was left open so that saved me a long walk loaded up with gear, I still needed to be at the other end if the field mind so still had a bit if a trudge. I set up under a large ash tree stood alone along the edge of the field, with my back to the tree the wind was blowing hard over my right shoulder perfect direction and I was fairly sheltered. I put two lofters in the tree and a rotary to my right and about eight dead birds randomly out in front, the birds came straight away I hadn't even got my net up! I think by now it was 12:15 and the birds decoyed really well , dropped in like stones I went to shoot one and there was four in the pattern that I hadn't noticed! A busy couple of hours saw about 20 down including two with one barrel I then went on to miss with the second barrel denying myself my first ever treble ( I don't own an auto!)

Things went very quiet by 2:00 but I stayed till 3:30 just to observe and guarantee they didn't come back, there still is a large flock hanging round.

So the final tally for the afternoon was 26 shot 23 picked the missing 3 dropped dead but over a large ditch unfortunately, really enjoyed it it's been a while since I've bagged over 20!

Edit; just thought I should say I was using 28g 7.5's through 1/2 chokes and they killed very well!

yeh i had good day today as well, same as the poster wind over my right shoulder, rotary out and 12 flocked decoys. no sooner set up and they were coming in bunches of approx 20 every 15 mins or so from 11.45 until the rain came approx 2pm.managed to nail 35, picked up 20 lost a load that went down a railway embankment and few more that came down in the next rape field and some i could not even find in the field i was shooting. but i was not going to trample all over crop to look for them. happy days :)
