welshwarrior
Any post 70's guns are very good some of the 70's are not as well made.
PhilR
I had a single trigger No 2 with detachable locks, it was a 70's gun. I had issues with the electors that wasn't resolved until new electors were fitted. If it was raining whilst shooting you could almost seeing the chambers rusting. Having said that I liked shooting it and it was a damned sight lighter to lug about than an O/U.
Wingman
I have an No.3 and its very close to being my favourite gun. It comes out for clays, pigeons and the odd game shoot and I shoot it very well. Mine was made in 1979 and so far hasnt missed a beat, but not much to go wrong being a non ejector model,
ditchman
that was my dedicated game gun...and for pigeons.....................as said earlier they are all good...but the older ones are better....no problem with spares.....nicely balanced.... mine was a 26".............. JohnfromUK
I have a No 1 - which is near identical to a No 2 for all practical purposes (different wood, engraving and barrel steel). Mine was made 1977 and is a lovely gun to use (28" double trigger). But you need (as most s/s guns) to use sensible loads - I use 21g Hull Comp X on clays, 26 or 28g Hull Imperial on most game and occasionally 32g (non toxic) for occasions when I need (a very few) lead free shots. You wouldn't want to shoot a round of clays with 32g! AyA make fine reliable guns and No 2 was (I believe) Britain's best selling s/s. Being around in good numbers, if you do need repairs, there should be no problem.
triumphant59
Aya number 2 got the chance of one not sure of the age 28 inched 1\2 and 3\4 choke detachable locks for £950 any of you own one Very good gun, not sure where the theory that the earlier ones weren't as good? More likely the older the gun the more use it could have had. Buy on condition, at that price it wants to be in good order especially if it's a private sale. There are plenty of other Spanish sidelocks out there equally as good and for less money. Look at Sarasqueta, Ugartechea, Laurona and Gorosabel (Gunmark Silver sabel)
Alycidon
Aya number 2 got the chance of one not sure of the age 28 inched 1\2 and 3\4 choke detachable locks for £950 any of you own one Had mine since 1978. Very sweet handling gun, I find 28gr Eley Impax very nice to shoot. Its lively with 30s and unpleasant with 32s. Usually they are choked 1/4 + 1/2 which as a game gun is good for sub 40 yard stuff. Only issue I have ever had was a broken firing pin although since I got into O/Us in the early 80s it has been relegated to an odd outing here and there. The Silver Sable is comparable but the others ( Laurona excepted) I felt were inferior when I looked at them before buying my No2. ( at the time Laurona did not have a sbs sidelock). New these days they are 6k, when I bought mine in 1978 they were about £440. If its in nice condition, no rust, no cracks in the hand of the stock then at £900 its good value. Look after it and it will be an heir loom, A
Seadog1408
I have a 28" AYA 2 , love the gun, handles great and even with 32's I don't find it punchy. I had a firing pin snap on mine, however they are easy to purchase and fit. Mike
