Looks like you are having a fantastic trip. We are planning on going on a African adventure in a year or two. Any advice?

Best advice is GO. I have worked in Kenya back in the 80's but this trip is South Africa. don't believe all the stories about it being dangerous, avoid Jo Burg and you will be fine.

S.Africa is not really the game capital of Africa and Safari's are better in Botswana or tan zanier. S.Africa does have a fantastic climate and Cape Town to Port Elizabeth is very safe and driving is easy. I downloaded S.Africa on to my Tom Tom for £40 and its worth its weight in gold.

cape Town has loads to do. I staid in a Band B called 4 on Varneys. great location for everything and run by a couple of very helpful guys.

Franschhoek is an excellent place to visit for a few days, I can recommend Klien Waterfall Lodge, great breakfast and pool temps reached 42 deg here in feb, `i tried to play golf but failed due to the heat. Then Addo National Park is awesome need three to four days here min. I can recommend Hitgeheim country lodge at Addo, run by Archie and his wife, great hosts and they will make sure you get the best out of your stay

Knysna and Plettingburg are the two big european places, but I can't recommend anywhere there, whatever you do just go, its the best place to be when Doris is ******* all over England and its a pleasant 33 deg here.

That is a superb photograph bud!

What is your set up again bud I'm sure I've asked before I just can't remember!

I have brought my cannon 500mm mk 11 and canon 24 to 70mm with a mkiv body

Great capture Doc.

I once spent a week in Jo Burg on route to Durban and Pietermaritzburg stayed in Durban omg fantastic and cheap at that time, the pound was well strong.

Me and the then to be wife got sun burnt at the Kingsmead cricket ground whilst drinking free drinks :lol: on the grass bank.

I netted at Kingsmead a few days later and a certain Shaun Pollock and Lance Klusner scared the life out of me for about 30 mins that I will never forget

Klusner used to drive round with a Magnum 44 next to his seat.

GG :good:

I'm off to South Africa in June and can't wait. Wife not too pleased though as got 6 hours to kill at Paris CDG as I insisted on going on the Airbus 380 rather than a Boring 777. Got 3 full days in Kruger staying at a lodge there. Hoping to shoot the BIG 5, but only with a camera as I don't have megabucks to do it with a gun.
