SAME OLD QUESTION....

I know this is a regularly asked question, but I'm not a regular guy !!!

I used to shoot .177 - very accurate, very deadly.

When I brought my pcp rifle I was told .22 was the way to go,

I have found it very inaccurte and unimpressive. All you ever read is that .177 will go straight through and not drop bunnies.

With the added range and accuracy, is it not better to get a good .177 head shot that a .22 chin shot??

afterall a .177 pellet is bigger than a shotgun pellet and you sometimes only hit with a couple of them...

as im thinking in investing in a new gun what are your oppinions...

- is a .20 a good compromise between hard hitting power and accuracy or does it not forfill either set of trousers?:D

Both .177 and .22 are as accurate as each other and both have the same rang if both at the same power, both are good for huntingas no matter what pellet you shoot a bunny with if you hit it through the brain it will die. So its basically whatever your happier with, .22 tends to keep it power more over range being heavier but then its trajectory is more loopy.

Hope this helps

Persionally i like .22 for hunting for the simple reasion that a .22 pellet will retain more energy downrange than a lighter .177 this should either kill or, if the worst does happen and you do wound,it seems to have enough shock value to enable you to dispatch it with another shot, or being able pick it up rather than running for cover.Trajectory does suffer with the slower .22,but i have never found this to much of a problem,it just somthing that you get used to and i find myself automatically holding over/under the required amount at different ranges  without really having to think about it.Some say .20 is the ideal compromise between the two, others say it is the worst of both worlds.I would never condem anyone for using .177 for hunting,i've used them myself and they seem fine,i think the key is to use what you are the happiest/most confedent with and what you think give you the best results

If the .177 and .22 are being shot at the same power, both will fine.

I've had .177 for for years and shot Bunnies into 4 figures, they all go down.

If you shoot a bunny in the #### with .22 or a .177 it wil not go down down, it's all about pellet placement.

Having said that at FAC levels I prefer .22 simply because I can get more power, and more shots.

I use .177 and Bisley mags. Plenty of energy left at 50 yds for even the biggest rabbits so long as you hit them in the brain. Get a lazer high on the scope for superb rangefinding. From 30 to 50 yds I just follow the dot and the pellet is never more than 3/4 inch from the centre of the dot which in reality means little more than using top /middle or bottom of dot for aimpoint
