  1. Past hour
  2. Fake, charlatan, that's not proper gravy out of a packet.
  3. No 'they' dont. No one doubts there are predators. They need controlling. The streets are full of them Thats because they dont shoot ! Ask a general member of the public whether shooting live quarry is OK , most will tell you its cruel, the reserve of toffs in tweed, they dont understand its accessibility. I spend a lot of time getting ordinary folk into shooting sports, the usual exclamation is that they didnt realise how cheap it was. Thats why anything that makes shooting more expensive is a bad thing, the pool of people who can afford it grows smaller. Yes you are. Or more accurately, what research benefits your own interests ? They HADto change ammunition, or they would be breaking the law. Did they accept it as necessary? No, many still moan about it to this day. At least no fowl die of ingesting lead shot lately do they ? Oh, I thought it was voluntary ?
  4. I agree with you regarding the interpretation of the statistics and feel that, as is widely acknowledged , statistics can be manipulated to promote a pre determined conclusion. I’m just not on board overall with the evidence that claims to support the justification for the extent of the proposed changes . I fear the far reaching consequences that those changes will bring about which I acknowledge to a younger generation of shooters starting out those fears may not be so great.
  5. Thanks for the lengthy reply Conor, much appreciated. I honestly think that a specific figure is what is needed for shooters and antis alike, but that can never be achieved, obviously. So us shooters err on the low estimates and the others err towards the higher estimates,,,, hence confusion and arguments. Like you say, it's about trust in the research 😏 I personally don't have a gripe with anyone, least of all any shooting orgs, as things change through time with most things,,,, especially contaminants. This time it's lead shot [inland]. The confusion starts when there's no 'black and white' instantly obvious solution. Plus, so many Q's !!! 🙂 I hope that makes sense ?
  6. blame Packham👍 yeh know, that tree hugging lefty do gooder and friend to all our feathered friends. UNLESS, you're a nice garden/woodland/field dwelling song bird.
  7. Nublue 22

    Fx drs,

    Well this weekend sorry
  8. There's no pigeons about.
  9. Future tip to all. Go online directly to Parcelforce website. It is slightly cheaper if you do....even if dropped off at the local to you Post Office...and cheaper still if taken to a local Parcelforce Depot (mine is but five minutes away a benefit of having an industrial estate on the village boundary with Leicester). https://www.parcelforce.com/sending-a-parcel They email you a receipt and also you download and print the label so you always have the tracking number to hand in your email. You will need scales (bathroom scales work for me) and a metric tape measure plus a PC with access to a printer.
  10. The Guardian's article, all the song birds are dissappearing, well the magpies killed the Blackbirds chicks, Dunnock chicks and the Robins eggs were all thrown out of the nest, all in the last to weeks, oh some ones cat every day is in the garden, must be globe warming? Get back to the Magpies they just seem to go around the gardens in a mob killing all and there's lot's of them. I wonder what the powers that be, answer will be?
  11. Wooden frames the same, lovely cold linoleum flooring to hold the guzunder?
  12. More importantly I wonder if they are to the pigeons liking? Guessing they’re part of the pea family, certainly look that way!
  13. From your link "The only valid conclusion that could be drawn from the study is that out of 356 pheasants sampled 62% were shot with lead ammunition, 4% were shot with non-lead ammunition, and 34% were shot with either lead or non-lead ammunition or something else"
  14. Fair enough. I have answered to the best of my knowledge and I would urge you to take up your concerns with GWCT on the science, with BASC on the voluntary transition (as you are a member), and with PW members on your hotspot proposal. As regards the 93% figure you quoted - I think that methodology is flawed (but I might be biased...) and it could be anything from 62% upwards. A certain irony to rely on stats provided by what some might call antis on here - whilst refuting stats produced by some of the same scientists estimating up to 100,000 birds a year dying of lead poisoning. The following may be of interest. https://basc.org.uk/poor-methodology-undermines-validity-of-game-meat-research/
  15. I concur with that Rewulf. Once one objective is reached then it’s on to the next. It’s a fight that I’m sure many activists would state is only over when sporting shooting ceases to exist. If that were to happen another goal will be set. Any concessions play into their hands and should be minimised as a matter of course. Hopefully they will be tied up with obstacles that can be put in their path to restrict them but that is more easily achieved with the full support of our national organisations. Anti fieldsports activism is a hobby, more than a hobby to many. People don’t want to give up their hobbies. It’s like Hunt sabs hunting hunts ,great fun for the weekend. Add in a shovel full of self righteousness and you’re away.
  16. Best is, he’s been our resident Robin for the last 4 years and become very friendly landing on the planter next to the kitchen door waiting for food and sometimes comes into the kitchen, they have nested in the same box at the bottom of the garden for the last 3 years and the chicks only hatched this weekend, sparrow hawks are as bad as bloody magpies, they hit our garden feeders almost every other day, gets even worse when the young birds come to the garden, the sparrow hawk takes at least a couple of young birds every day that we know of, the young birds have not got a clue about the danger.
  17. If you paid by card then theoretically you would think there was a way of locating the transaction so they could give you the tracking number. I’m not sure if it’s PO policy to do that though. If you paid by cash then I don’t see how they could find it.
  18. Agriv8, bless her she's been such a great mum so far, but they are draining her a bit now so I have to drag her away for a break a few times a day. I'd think they'd drink her dry if they could 😂
  19. This comment is not a criticism of you JKD its just that you raise an important point. So the following is a general observation. I think its a matter of trust. The GWCT scientists have reviewed all the research and they advise to move away from lead shot for live quarry shooting on the basis of the research. Extrapolating from specific research to national figures will always involve estimates and modelling - whatever the topic. I don't think anybody on here would question the GWCT research and advice on the benefits of predator control. However, the antis do question that research. The antis also question the estimates on the value of social, environmental and economic value of shooting. Who is right and wrong? Has anyone actually spent the same time as the scientists to weigh it all up or are we just agreeing with research that suits our world view. I well remember the early days of the wetlands regulations that were brought in because of the research and the UK govt signing the AEWA treaty underpinning that research. Wildfowlers were up in arms blaming BASC and that the research was an anti conspiracy. 20 years later nearly all agree that there is evidence supporting the ban - yet few read the research then, and few now. What changed? People got used to changing ammunition I guess. That was the nub of the issue. Attack the research - look for an enemy - rather than trusting in and embracing the need to change. And here we are again. Further changes in ammunition needed because of the research. But let's blame BASC and blame the research that nobody has studied apart from the qualified scientists. I would recommend anyone reading this to watch the film 'Don't Look Up', its very satirical and funny, and watch out for the lyrics of a song in the film 'Look up, what he's really trying to say. Is get your head out of your ***. Listen to the goddamn qualified scientists'.
  20. nope you need the tracking number
  21. That you Rewulf the reliance on probable , estimates and difficult to quantify sums up the flimsy nature of this “evidence”and calls into doubt the reliance of classifying it as conclusive . In fact it could be considered insulting to present it as such. Just when I thought we were moving forward I’m forced to admit that my initial conclusion that there is no evidence quantifiable or otherwise and that these changes and proposed changes are politically driven may have been correct from the start. Bureaucrats require bureaucracy and all the time and money required to produce it its little surprise that there should be such a move to have it increased. Perhaps there should be a move to decrease that bureaucracy where there is no scientific evidence to substantiate it before we are overrun with restrictions that achieve little other than providing a career for those who would seek to overwhelm us with it.
  22. Bisto best, nicer than the cardboard tub, comes in a glass jar. Add the meat juices and water from the veg. Nothing worse than runny gravy.
  23. Blimey, good luck without the long number on your receipt.
  24. Not only that , but some datasets that they used, go back to the 70s , long before the lead ban on waterfowl. Also by their own admission, newer datasets, post ban , are tainted by their own conclusion that some lead shot could remain a hazard for 10-100 years. What does this mean in practice ? That even if lead shot for live quarry voluntary 'transition' or ban came about tomorrow, they would still be able to produce 'evidence' that birds were still being poisoned by lead (whether they are or not) leading to further criticism and restrictions. The likes of pacman/WJ ect , arent interested in lead poisonings, their primary target is ALL hunting sports, lead is just a useful tool to make that aim a reality. You only need to look at the fowlers, who are constantly targeted, decades later, because a tiny proportion of them still use lead (allegedly)
  25. Today
