  1. Exactly. Now that I have probably said enough without causing myself or anyone any distress either legal or not, and having had some assurance that it is possible for the rifle to fire if it was dropped I'll leave it there. I appreciate those who offered something to assist. Thank you, it has helped.
  2. That has yet to be determined but is very much a factor. In normal cases it would be easy to find out but this is more complicated. By the way, I agree with you, any accidental discharge always has a reason, I appreciate that.
  3. It's very sensitive, only just recently happened, very personal and police are involved. I can't say any more. I don't need you to understand, just answer my question if you know, if you don't please accept I will not be able to elaborate. Can it go off if dropped, yes or no was what i was really looking for. It seems it can, so question answered. Sorry to be blunt but it is not the right time to have to explain everything.
  4. It is a recent local event that is in the early stages so can't comment further but it is not my gun, it is a friends. I wish I could give full details but I really cannot. My intention is to try to figure out how it could happen and IF it could happen, I just need answers to try to be ahead of any enquiry or investigation.
  5. Without analysis I believe the trigger may have been adjusted but not changed, if that makes sense. It was a well used gun so light trigger added to wear may have been a factor. My knowledge of the trigger is limited but it seems to stand to reason the lighter the trigger pull the more chance of it firing. Thank you.
  6. I already said I can't give full details at this stage, I would have thought it would be understood why.... the rifle fired after it was dropped, my question is to anyone who would know the answer - is this possible or not from the mechanics of the mechanism. I have a genuine reason to enquire, it's not just a random question to annoy you. There are plenty of other threads please don't feel you have to waste time with mine. This is what I thought, appreciate your input.
  7. Any gunsmiths or members more knowledgeable than me help me with a question? Is it possible that a loaded, ready to fire with the safety OFF Sako Finnfire .22LR would accidentally discharge if it was dropped? If so any idea what type of impact? I understand from some internet research that modern pistols have a form of fail safe against this which means the firing pin will only engage if the trigger is pulled. This goes on to say, however, that this safety 'mechanism' is less frequently fitted to rifles. I have an exceptionally good reason for asking and I can't go into detail now, but if anyone knows for sure it would help me greatly. Thank you in advance.
  8. https://leasing.com/ is the one I use - has all the best deals from all the dealers. Just takes a while to get used to the search function.
  9. I was looking for my usual Winchester Lazers but the Mini Mags were the only HV's they had in stock.
  10. As the title says really, picked up some CCI Mini Mag from the shop today and on closer inspection I've just realised thay are solid point 40grain rather than the 36grain hollow point I thought I was getting. They are for rabbits, should I take them back and try to change them or will they be OK to use?
  11. Oh dear - this is worth a read! http://www.somersetcountygazette.co.uk/news/14958219.Forgetful_MP_launches_angry_tirade_against_police_gun_permit_delay_after_failing_to_renew_his_firearm_licence/
  12. After weeks of research and reading as many reviews I could find I decided to go for a Harkila Pro Hunter X. A huge amount of money for a coat but I tend to keep stuff for years and if it is as hardwearing as people say and it holds it's waterproof then I think it's an investment. First impressions are that it is incredibly comfortable, it fits in all the right places and allows all the movement I need. It will be interesting to see how it performs in the field.
  13. £30 on a bottle of whisky and a box of biscuits for the wife. Been doing the same for last 20 years on my permissions - and have never lost one. Small price to pay to access all that land whenever I want. I know it works as I have heard on more than one occasion that approaches and all sorts of offers and promises are made by others desperate to get on the land but it is always a definite no.
  14. Yep, I know what you mean. On several occasions I've had to double check I'd not let the odd HV get into the magazine. Usually they are very good though so the odd one is forgiven.
  15. Barbour bransdale jacket, waterproof and breathable in size large. I bought it last year for a last minute shoot invite. I tried several in the shop and ended up with this one as it was the only one that was felt like it would be flexible enough to feel comfortable shooting all day, in fact it feels almost like its elastic type material. It's very warm and they say very waterproof however I have not worn it in the rain. All the reviews I saw said it was excellent and it is. Since that day's shoot I have worn it to the races once. I just don't use it enough so with Christmas coming I reckon I could use the money.... It's this one http://www.barbour.com/uk/categories/mens/waterproof-jackets/barbour-bransdale-waterproof-jacket/p/MWB0449GN51L?breadcrumbs=mens&breadcrumbs=mens-waterproofjackets My pictures don't really show that it has a detachable hood. As far as sizing I'm 5' 8" and about 13.5 stone and it's still got room. It's not a baggy fit as it's kind of stretchy and is still able to give freedom of movement whilst being snug enough to keep the draughts out! I'd say that I'm a 42 - 44" chest. I paid £269 so with the use it's had (or not) and its condition I'd be looking to get £170 and for that I'd pack and post 1st class to you. Paypal works for me. They say; It’s crafted with a lightweight yet durable outer, a waterproof drop-lining and a cotton inner lining, for reliable protection from wind and downpours that feels comfortably breathable. The relaxed fit and adjustable waist ensure room for layering, while a two-way front zip can be unzipped slightly from the bottom for additional freedom of movement. The Bransdale offers a host of innovative features with sporting functionality in mind, including articulated sleeves with adjustable cuffs, anti-slippage shoulder stitching and two bellows pockets with retainer straps. The funnel collar is lined with Alcantara for luxurious softness against the skin, while a generous detachable hood is on standby to offer extra protection. 98% Polyamide 2% Elastane 100% Cotton 82.2 - 85cm's | 32" - 33.5" 100% Polyester in sleeves & drip strip
  16. What you need is a Sako Finnfire. Getting rare now but I reckon if you could find a good original one and you looked after it it'd be an investment.
  17. I've been using these for a while now and am very happy with them. I do get the occasional loud one but overall very good subs.
  18. Some of you all think a dozen rabbits is too many, without knowing how many acres it is, how often I go there and how much of a problem the rabbits are causing. I had no idea there were so many clairvoyants here but you learn something every day. Let me know when I'm going there next and if it will be worth it, I'll then know how late home I'll be. ;-)
  19. Went out last night to a permission for my usual wander around but saw just a handful of rabbits and ended up with just 3 - usually it would be at least a dozen. It was warm, just about to get dark and it was almost like they were all staying in as it was too hot outside. I wondered if someone had been out dog walking or similar and I arrived just after they had gone, but it is unusual to see anyone there as it's quite remote and the landowner has put all manner of signs and gates up. Question is - where were they? Too hot? Spooked already? Just a bad night?
  20. It was something I heard in a gun shop. It was a general discussion. This a forum, not a court of law!
  21. Heard in the gun shop this morning that there is a real shortage of Winchester subs (I had the last ones and they weren't sure when more were arriving) and that Eley's ammo manufacturing had either been outsourced to China or Eley had been sold to the Chinese, not sure which.
  22. Yes, I hear this too and have tried with various degrees of success to get a definitive answer. Many will say that HV's are nowhere near as accurate as subs. To be fair, when I zero HV's at 75 paces they don't group as well but I can't understand why. Apparently it's to do with the transition from subsonic to supersonic but why is it only the rimfire round that is so unaccurate? Why doesn't this affect all other calibers... I have to say I am confused by it all. Anyway having gone through all the time and trouble to re zero from subs to HV's recently I've decided to go back to subs as I've had a few misses and body shots which kind of defeats the object. It's a shame as I love the noise the HV's make...
  23. Yep, same here. Had to check on more than one occasion that I hadn't loaded HV's in error.
