  1. Just to add to the gun's story, in the hands of my 12 year old it straighted a stand at a charity clay shoot where a certain very well known shot only managed to hit nine... who needs a Perazzi when you own a Lames eh?
  2. Savages for lumps on black or claret buzzers or in fact anywhere along the north shore. Try a floater with a long leader (20ft) and cut the booby eyes down with scissors so a heavyweight buzzer/short dressed hare's ear fished about 2-3ft away from it can make it sink ultra slow and just keep up with it on the drift. Might need to experiment a bit but it works. I tie all the usual booby patterns (tequila, woofta etc) but down to a size 14 so exactly the same but in miniature. If it doesnt work then pull a di5 and a shuggie or 2 - at least get you'll string pulled.
  3. What water are you on? Successful washing line depends what the fish want and what depth they are holding at. It allows you to work this out fairly well so all you need to know now is size of flies, colours, size of booby eyes, speed of drift, which line, speed of leader sink, spacing of flies on leader, speed of retrieve, ledges and drop offs, sunshine or cloud, wind speed and what your boat partner had for tea the night before. Easy eh? Tight lines.
  4. So far as rough shooting and a bit of beating goes 15m should be fine if that's what you want to do but if you are picking up then without question some of the best dogs at putting runners and pricked birds in the bag are bordering on being out of control. Many people will say don't introduce a dog to game too early but nothing is worse than the odd scent here and there for making a dog pull. If the birds and scents are everywhere they have no need to clear off. You don't see many keepers at gundog training and I know plenty that can beat and pick up with theirs. Guess it boils down to what and where the dog will be working. Good luck with it.
  5. Last reduction before it goes on eBay - £60 for the pen and box.
  6. For sale either separately or together is my whelping box and heavy duty 10 panel (80x80cm) pen which can be used inside or out and as it is in sections can be made as big or as small as needed. Box has been very solidly built by an experienced joiner and it also is easily flat packed for transportation but is fairly heavy as it's not made cheaply. Pick up in East Sussex. Bargain at £100 for both items. PS the pups have all been sold.
  7. 16g is the way to go and would love to see more of them being used - with the amount of old paper cartridges I get given they seem to have been more popular in times gone by? Pointed in the right direction and loaded with 32g Alphamax VIP 5's, my sbs will drop anything if you don't mind a little kick!
  8. Only two things really grind my gears. Dangerous (not necessarily a low bird) shooting and the chaos that ensues when every dog in the beating line all of a sudden becomes a top notch picker up and a full-on field trial competition with no rules ensues at the end of a drive. Guns take note - I'll happily send you home however much you've spent and however far you've travelled and beaters, there are plenty who'd love to have your job so stick to it unless asked otherwise. I would point out that both these are very rare - maybe once a season.
  9. I'll take the big one please Kenny. Is it possible to pick up next week sometime? Cheers Mike
  10. Hi Kenny What make is the bigger cabinet please? Got a mate just starting who needs one. Many thanks Mike
  11. Springers and labs will nearly always be better as gundogs but some of the classiest dogs I have seen in a beating line have been collies. When your pushing several hundred birds steadily towards a flushing point their herding instinct really comes into its own. Personally I'll always have springers as allrounders.
  12. I'll take the raptor please bud if you can post or courier? Let me know. Cheers Mike
  13. Interested in the raptor. Can you give me a bit more info please? Thanks Mike
  14. Best way to keep dogs on leads is a sign with a pest control company logo and the words "VERMIN POISON IN USE! Please keep to the footpath and keeps dogs on leads. Thankyou." Works every time especially with a few poison boxes in view.
  15. Depends on how confident you are in bringing it back into line. By asking how to do it I would suggest its a task too much but no need to put it down as there may be someone who has the time and experience to sort it out. I've taken on a couple of extremely aggressive dogs and the only thing I would say is that neither were as strong or as big or as loud as I can be. This doesn't mean I'm heavy handed but the dogs realised quickly who was top dog. Only then can the training begin and lifelong friends made. Gillaroo
  16. 22 for me please. Great idea btw!
  17. Unfortunately Redgum this isn't even a money thing as it's just supply of carcasses. All it comes down to is greed and stupidity. If the rights next door were for sale we'd have them for sure but it will be a very long time before this happens if ever. To sum it up, I've had this patch for 25 years but give someone a few questions to answer, a bit of Target practice, a DSC1 and a FAC next door and I'm knackered!
  18. Try Wafcol hypoallergenic chicken and corn. Works every time every time I've seen this problem. Luckily all mine eat anything.
