Yeh I accept they aren't as off road capable as the Jimny but for loading and country lanes to shoots etc and in bad weather am happy to compromise. It would also be used around my little shoot but I would have to do it when the ground is dryer from late spring to autumn.

Folks, I love my Jimny to bits and off road it's like a main battle tank. But am traveling further a field with my shooting and loading and want to change for something a bit newer with some more room. So I am trying to find out about the CRV and Rav 4 with regards off road ability and suitability as a shooting vehicle. Anything I have would have All Terrain tyres put on it. Thoughts and shared experiences would be appreciated. TIA Matt

I've looked at a 3dr Vit but folk swear the very best mpg from them is 30mpg and most likely 25mpg. I would love to have one for a month and see what MPG I could get from one as this would be an alternative for me. I recon I could get 35mpg driving like a saint.

Right, just refuelled. 290 miles no fuel light, 34.4 ltrs of fuel. Online calculator says 38.32mpg.

Hi, How long does the battery last in these and what battery do they take ?

Mine is a 2005 registered, VVT model / engine. Am sat in work now and have only been driving it around town to work etc on this tank of fuel, on my way home I will fill it and work out the MPG on this tank but from a fill so far am upto 280 miles and no fuel light but fuel is low. Its completely standard bar Maxxis Bravo AT 771 tyres, I give it an oil and filter change every 10k miles and its great. Not as quick as it used to be but I don`t need it be any quicker either, 60 / 65 mph and am happily plodding along (remember speed limit is only 70 mph anyway for cars and lorries are 60 mph with some vehicles restricted to 57 MPH) I still get everywhere I need to including to tow out two of the three disco`s on our shoot as one fellow member on here will confirm I have the rear seats permanently folded down and have made two shelves to go in for different jobs. I also as standard carry a fair bit of kit to cover other vehicle breakdowns and accidents with me (2 x 2 ton ratchet straps, 10mtr tow strop 3 tone rated with shackles, two fire extinguishers, adjustable tuque bar, socket set, bottle jack, 12v air compressor, amber beacon, warning triangle, spare assorted tools, good first aid kit, bungee cords and tie down straps and hi-vis clothing) Also the dog box is constantly in there. So the vehicle inst as light as it could be. Fuel wise am not too fussy but: Shell, Asda & Sainsburys are y most common re-fuelling options. As I say i will work out MPG and update later

Is 37 MPG really that bad about town ? Last month ours returned 42.5mpg driven steady on a day trip out to North Wales with me and the wife in and two terriers on their box. Am very happy with ours, had it with 27k on the clock and now its done 134k, its my shooting truck and every day motor just wish the price hadnt gone up on them. When Mine dies it will be replaced with another without hesitation.

Personally I feel every officer should be taser trained and it should be mandatory to carry one also accompanied by a body camera. I would also like to see the shotgun taser out in good numbers across all forces to give officers that stand off option with taser deployment. If officers don`t meet the grade then out for their own safety. Its great people want to be police officers but the important thing is that they get to return home safe and in one piece to their family and loved ones. In order to do this they need to be equipped correctly, trained to use their equipment and physically able to look after themselves a bit. Living in a rose tinted world sadly continues costing lives and leaving lasting effects on others. The number of assaults on police is unacceptable. Also prison sentences need to be over hauled and more prisons need to be built. In addition to this yes I would like to see at least double the armed police about and also more legal protection for Armed officers. Am fed up of folk saying about the american officers being a bad example and not wanting the UK to end up like the USA. I don`t for one minute think the UK can be compared to the USA like that. Look at the likes of: Ireland (N&S), Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Belgium and Holland etc who have an armed police force, they don`t have the issues of America with police shootings so why would we !

Lloyd, We are a rough shoot but release 200 birds from a pen. We dont have any big shoots near by and last years figures are: 117 Pheasant, 9 Mallard, 8 Woodcock & 2 Snipe - Plus squirrels corvids and pigeon . This is picked birds on occasion when we have been light on dogs we may have lost a bird or two in the season. Also not a year with the birds we had so we have changed supplier this year. Season before was 142 Pheasant plus other species, again putting 200 birds down. We on guys son comes to beat and another`s grandson so we have two beaters and we have people as walking back guns too so semi-driven if that is a correct term / description. This season we also have a white hen , 6 black hens and 6 black males in the mix of birds. Our members are also able to shoot over the ground all year for decoying and roost shooting and shotgun pest control (Squirrels). ATB Matt

I would agree that the price seems fair. I think we have to accept though that there are a lot of people out there that say a lot and do little ! For example: We have a Little DIY syndicate where its £400 to join first year and £300 year after that. We put down 200-250 birds and shoot once a fortnight with great returns but also have wild duck, WoodCock and Snipe in our bags. We have two beaters also. Being a member gives shooting over the land all year around and members regularly fill their trailers with firewood too and one guy occasionally has crayfish from the stream also. But despite advertising on FB and in the local paper we haven't had anyone come forward to fill a vacant post. So I have come to the solution that talk is very cheap. Good luck in getting some guns to attend though
