  1. ive had 6 defenders, always been reliable, they just keep on going ..... 5 of the 6 were 200 & 300tdi's ...... awesome engines they are however noisy and not as comfortable they will go anywhere THE most fun vehicle ive ever owned bar none
  2. if work is so close then walk or cycle to work ? and share a car with your wife if oyu only need one for shooting ? i have a quad, drive it on the road but its not what they are built for, you will be getting through tyres pretty quickly
  3. sit to sit up (hup) to get in the landy anything other would confuse me let alone the dog
  4. if the dog lives in and you have central heating the coat can be dry .......... buy some 'tail & mane' from countrywide or a livery yard and spray that on it might help, also stop them picking up quite so many burrs, seeds etc ........ clipping out will ultimately only make the dog / bitch fluffier !!!
  5. he might not be so keen to dive in next time, which depending on what you want to do with him might become a bit of a problem, not too sure how old your pup is but i would try and keep him out of nettles for a bit if hes a real youngster
  6. if youre willing to travel a tiny bit further then try James Starkey, Jarailstar Gundogs
  7. earl of harrington has a day ticket stretch i think, some great barbel and chub fishing
  8. i shot about 20 in and around the stables at home last year and havent shot 1 this year, numbers definately down, not sure whether it was down to my cull last year or whether they had a bad winter
  9. got into the dog training section on here loads of pinned posts from new to the flock, plent of advice in there
  10. if its a old tractor then the fuel lines can block from the fuel tank, undo the line at the lift pump end and blow hard back up it to remove and debris that might be in the pipe or around the outlet in the tank then try it again
  11. now im confused ! surely it should work on a m2 / bird rather than a m/bird ? or am i missing something ?
  12. thanks i have a stable for the chicks, and 10 pen sections, wasnt too sure if it would be enough space for them......... sounds like it will be
  13. i am rearing 200 day old chicks for our shoot, how much space do i need for the rearing field / is there a rule of thumb 1 bird/m2 or similar ,,,,,,,,

    LUDLOW

theres a decent Orvis shop there
  15. another vote for griffin lloyd, great ground with some super high birds off the high tower !
  16. i hide can be a little daunting for a yong pup, assuming you have a ok day there can be a lot of shots going off in close proximity to her so make sure she is 110% ok to gunshot is she steady to shot ? sounds like oyu need to brush up on her steadyness before asking her to sit still for hours............. if she is pretty steady then i would peg her down otherwise as said she is likely to try and run thorugh the net .......... its important she is steady to shot and falling birds and being in a hide pegged down might help / it might frustrate her ! dont let her retrive all the birds just send her out every now and again this will help build up her patience and steadyness 14 months is still young to expect a dog to sit still for hours on end while you enjoy your shooting, be patient and if its not working put her away in the car, then bring her back out a hour later and try again.
  17. mark, i totally agree with you, my point is get whatever he wants, its his dog ....... seems to be asking all the right questions and probably already knows the 'downsides' ...... there is no right or wrong dog as such however on forums you will always get lots of opinions, they are just that opinions we have a HPR that works on our shoot and it does no worse than a lot of the springers / cockers / labs
  18. its your dog, you get what you want ................. i think people are just trying to advise on some of the negative points of your chosen breed given
  19. my orginal comments still stand, a gundog club is a great place to get advice, a lot of it free ........... and you are a little loopy !
  20. join a local gundog club, there will be plenty of people that will have knowledge/experience they will gladly pass on .......... dont set your expectations too high, be patient and take it 1 step at a time month by month .......... best of luck ps - Mr Rizzini - i'm off to buy a horse, no idea of the breeding but hell papers/lineage dont matter, i reckon if i train it right i will win the national, this time next year i'll be a millionairre ................... dont think so eh ! you my friend are a proper fuitloop !!!!!
  21. bathing your dog isnt going to do the coat much good, it will also take all the oils away that would normally repel the water and make the dog dry quicker and smell less ........... as aaid before though a dog that smells of dog, funny that !
  22. i'd be in if it was the 31st, i'm shooting on another shoot on the 1st feb
  23. piers morgan is a complete and utter master bator
  24. pick 1 book or 1 training dvd and stick to that, dont chop and change between books / dvd's proffessional gundog training by joe irving is a good book, the david lissett springer spaniel trainng dvd is also good concentrate on the stop whistle, this is probably the most important command............. its usually one continuous pip. to train him/her when you feed the pup, hold the bowl up at waist height, walk towards the pup and as he/she looks up to the food bowl he / she will probably naturally plant said backside on the ground ............ as you see it about to happen give a gentle continuous pip ............ you dont need to blow it hard, just a gentle continuous pip ............. repeat this each time you feed. there is also a wealth of stuff on here pinned from new to the flock, you would not do too badly just going through those and using them
