  1. Where will what end up? this conversation or the pellet, i would of guessed in the back stop as i had planned, and after firing found to be correct. However you not knowing my land or the back stop i was using would of given you little to go on to provided me with that information. I think my own judgment would of been far more relevant, hence the reason i have an OPEN ticket, that gives me the right to assess the land and judge if i feel it is suitable for the use of the gun. Im not a 15 year old with his first gun, iv been shooting for over 25 years and would hope by now that i have a good understanding of safety (That maybe why there is an IOSH certificate on my office wall) without having to ask people that have no idea about where im shooting or what at. Taxi Driver, yes your right matey, mine is the same but i would not recommended it in a town area just in case. But you know your gun and backstop, and on an open you get to make the call.
  2. Maybe after shoving another few pellets through it and getting more used to it, i will be doing (Fingers crossed). My old gun the air arms i was able to shoot 1p coins off the fence at 25m (New 1p coins, not the old dustbin lid type) The pellet is the recommended one, but not always the best, it is a heavy weight though at 21.4 Gr. 2" is way to wide, as i looked at the ruler on my office desk my mistake was apparent even though at the time it made perfect sense. Guess im just a typical bloke, always exaggerating on size.
  3. Your correct, i was not asking a question, as indicated "Most people when using a forum" was the clue here, i was pointing out that before you go on the attack you should ensure the post was correct. I was stating FACT,of what i had been up to that day. So what question would of like me to have asked in regard to my discharging the gun.? Can i shoot on land i have permission on, YES The landowner answered that one Should i get used to the gun before shooting at live quarry, YES, as i was already doing that. What pellets should i use, DAYSTATE also sorted that one out. So pray tell me what i should of been asking.
  4. Mr Secretagentmole, Your quite correct, however it had been a long day and i failed to notice my mistake 2" should of read 2cm or as Mr Night Searcher points out, about the size of a 5p the same is also true about the CZ. But thank you for jumping on me and telling how bad the gun is or i need more Practice or quit shooting live quarry before checking if i had in fact made a typo. Or is this another one of them forums that likes to have a pop at people all the time because you feel they need to think you know more than they do. As per normal with Forums, its not what is said to someone but how it is said, most people use a forum for advice (That’s the stuff when their not sure about something and like a bit of help) Not to be spoken to like some retard who has no clue what they are doing. As stated, yesterday was spent target shooting to improve aim and lean more about the new gun and thought id just post what im up to as i have been very silent on this site even though iv been here for 5 years. As a wise man once said, "You learn nothing by talking, only by listening" or in the modern world "nothing by posting, only by reading" PS, feel free to check my grammar and spelling as well, you may be able to point out I’m not very good at that either. Mr Night Searcher, i'm using the recommended pellet for this gun as listed on the Daystate website, and find it very stable up to about shot 25 when it starts to run out of Air and needs a recharge. They are the Bisly Magnums, a really good pellet i think. I did have ago with my old AirArms 12Ft lb with them, but it did not have the guts to do much damage. They were better than the BSA pellets i last used with it though but they were over 25 years old and had gone a bit funny.
  5. You are correct, an FAC Airgun is not for use in the back yard. However the land i shoot on is directly behind my house, so i could of just walk to the bottom and over the fence. This is the only reason i was able to do this on my garden. The land is passed for .22 rimfire rounds. I would not wish anyone to think this is in a normal street with people living behind me. Its country side with farm land surounding. Anyway back today, i regreat to say as it was raining, not much was about, and as its a new gun decided that the day would be better spent target shooting and range finding. The rifel is shooting good groups of around 2" at 25m, so a nice clean head shoot should be no problem. I also went to the gunshow yesterday and picked up a CZ Bruno .22 as well (NEVER TO BE USED IN A BACK GARDEN) and we took that out as well, thats shooting 2" groups at 50m but as i was shooting sub's the bullit drop was very high at 75m often missing the target. I have some rats to go take care of this week with the Air rifel, we let you know how i get on there. Hopfully it will stop raining by then.
  6. Well the last one i bought was a Air Arms Mistral back in 1987 (Yes i still own it and its in as new condition) So buying another airgun 25 years later i knew i was in for some surprises. First was the price.......who the hell died and decided that airguns should be so expensive, i picked one up at £1,200 and soon put it back down again, not for me i thought. I want to go out in the field and not worry about getting it dirty, at £1,200 id be worried about getting it dusty never mind dirty. Anyway, i found one i liked the look of and also in the price range i had in mind, About £300. Well i got this one for £295 and even though its a few years old, its still in great condition. Its a Daystate Harrier .22 pushing out 30ft lbs (FAC licence) Just the ticket, its even in black. I took my old trust .22 Mistral on to the garden and took a couple of test shots at around 20m, i was shooting in to 1" thick chipboard and it was just embedding the pellet into the board and leaving it flush, next i took the Harrier and put a couple of shots through that but at 25m. The sound was not what i expected and to be honest a little disappointing. What had i bought? This has less power than my old .22........How wrong was that assumption! On checking the board the Harrier was blowing holes through it and then hitting the shed, OH MY GOD! This is not a back garden plinker, this is a kill everything in front of you death gun. Although i have nothing behind my house and a very good backstop i decided this gun was not for garden use, I finished setting the scope up and then put the gun away. Its first outing will be on Sunday as i have a date with some pigeons that keep flying away when i use the 12 Gauge. But Saturday im off to the gun show, as i also want a .22 Rimfire, a .17 Rimfire and also a 9 shot semi auto 12 gauge as i have different needs on various land i shoot on. So, my next post maybe about another new gun to my collection or about some dead pigeons.
  7. I would not have a Landrover as a Gift never mind using my own cash to buy one. I made that mistake a few years ago and got my self a 300 TDI. I may as well have stood on the street chucking money in the air. It was the biggest money pit i have ever had. I now own a Ford mavrick, on a 97 plate (So really its a Nissan Terrano) and that why i bought it. My dad had one and i used it to pull 44ton HGV's out of our yard and up a slight hill to the main roads. They pull like a bitch, the engines last a life time (As fitted to the london taxi black cabs. So if your going to get one steer well clear of the 300TDI, it was the worst one they ever made, the 200TDI is far better. The TD5 again is a lot better still. But for my money Nissan all the way (The newer Ford Mavs are made by Ford and not as good as the Nissan versions)
  8. What a great idea, iv got one of them 4x4 cars doing nothing as well. Im not going to brake it but i could cover it with something and sit a bird on top of that.....
  9. Once i though i was in for a great day shooting on eone of the fields, there most of been close to 500 birds feeding. I had been ask by the landowner not to shoot before 7.30 as this field was close to some houses (Sound wise, not as in shot wise) and the farmer did not want any one gettin gwoken up before then. I got set up, pigeons just sat watching me,got hide up, again just sat watching me, had a quick coffee and waited till 7.30. It was now 7.15 so only 15 minutes to go, then at dead on 7.25 every frigging bird flew off for no reason. It was just like some one shouted "Come on boys he going to start shooting us in 5 minutes" I kid you not, you had to see it to belive it.
  10. Shot guns have more than one shot. (As it was pointed out to me after i shot the first bird and never gave the second one a though)
  11. All the fields i shoot at the moment are Rape Fields, down side is, there are 600 acres of them. I spent Saturday sat in the fields just watching where they were fly to and from when the bird scares went off in surounding field. I found a good flight path and sat under it for a couple of hours, Non of the over flying birds came any where near me though, all to high. So with that said the nest thing to address is the Decoys. Reading other posts i need to invest in a good magnet and a couple of bouncers as i have neither at the moment. All mine are static shells with a couple of full bodies that i put on canes. I have spent time finding the feeding areas too, easy to spot as they have little groth on them compared to the rest of the fields. But the birds change fields for, what to me looks like no reason! I have also located some of the roosting trees they sit on during most of the day, would i be correct in saying if i draw lines from roost tree to roost tree i should find new flight paths or is that a bit of wishful thinking.
  12. So i was not to off the mark with the feeding then. Im out in the morning and will sit as long as the snow holds off, LOL Thanks for the reply Harnser
  13. This could be where im going wrong as well, will watch the posts
  14. What is the best time, i have been shooting early mornings and late evenings in the hope of shooting during feeding. To be honest not had much luck. I have around 600 acres to shoot and im not having much luck. I have decoys out and have good hide, realtree combat clothing. But still not too much luck. Over to you guys (Or girls)
  15. i though this only happend to me, I was in the same situation. was stood with a friend that i clay shoot with when the guy 3 doors away came talking to us. he has 3 small fields with a pigeon problem on, my mate had already been told he could shoot on his land but never did as he said nothing was ever on it. i on the other hand and only just getting in too shooting am more than happy to walk round a field gun in hand and not pull the trigger once. My high intrest and continuios "popping" round to check for pigeons for him lead him to ask me if i was intrested in shooting some rabbit for his mate who owns a fish farm. hopefully this will be sorted in the next week or so.
