  1. Hello With a budget of £600 - £700 which new makes of shotgun would you recommend or avoid? I know I could pick up a decent used one for that money, but it's a gift, so can't really be a used item. Weight is an issue for the user. The lighter the better. 12ga, game only. I shoot with 15 year old Baikal which does me fine, so brand name bragging rights isn't a big concern. A decent gun for the money is the main aim. Thanks.
  2. Not sure if I can put video links in, but I had several unsuccessful attempts with Phillips - the key was removing all the old blue, sanding just didn't do it, nor did rust remover - at least not perfectly. In the end I resorted to electrolysis and a 12v power source and it produced a much better result. This was a sound moderator - I was pretty pleased with the results, but I wouldn't like to try it with a full rifle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnnWHL_7q8k Parts 1 + 2 are the unsuccesful attempts which involved (God forbid) actually following the instructions, so I haven't posted them here. A frustrating and time consuming comedy of errors until I got it right by trial and error.
  3. I found them to to be very good on some things (speed of visit, letting me know when they were delays with variations) and poor on others (telling me they never issued open tickets to anyone, so don't ask). It might be that if you have a 'professional' need - deer and pest control was mine for some land we manage, they move quickly, but if it's 'sporting' only with an occasion chance to get out shooting then they may take longer. Don't know if that true, but mine was very quick at the same time I knew others were waiting ages.
  4. Stubby, I have no sound on this machine so can't tell if you are explaining this as you go so can I ask - when you pull the skin back do you tear it off or leave it hanging , and what part of the guts do you grab to pull them out, and do you not need to free the back end off - just pull and it all comes away? Cheers, C.
  5. If the flag of St George has racist undertones then maybe they should eradicate racism.
  6. Freeing the back pasage from a deer is fiddly with a knife/fingers, and you end up contaminating both and have to clean them in the field. Plus if you nick the tube then you're in bother becasue ecoli gets inside the carcass. A few stalkers use this thing.
  7. The comments and generalisations that some posters here are make about farmers and landowners are absolutely shocking. It is no wonder that shooting is hard to come by when so many shooters talk about the people who let them shoot on their land with such contempt. I regularly read farming forums, and plenty of farmers will read forums like this, and see how too many shooters actually view them.
  8. Come back and post the results of your research when you are finished plus your data and any conclusions/suggestions you make on the back of it. That way people will see for themselves, they're a prickly bunch on here, suspicious of 'outsiders' in case you are here to take our guns away.
  9. Is that the same as an Andy McNab where you shoot a stag, grouse and enemy soldier in one day?

    Case Tumbler

Get a 2nd hand national geographic rock tumbler off ebay. Thats what I use.
  11. Quads have had a hard life and for what I need are still pricey, tractors and dumpers esp. can be a ****** to fix and cost spondoolicks to get a half decent one. I'd thought of a fiat panda 4x4, and cutting it down to the bone. Ideally though something with a chassis. I want to spend 50 quid on it! and not worry about it getting nicked. I'll take anything on, really.
  12. My landrover won't fit in between my trees. I want an old, small 4x4, diesel, and which I can strip and weld into something useful for pulling logs etc. It will never be on a public road so will be SORN'd, tax/ins not an issue. Any suggestions?
  13. I use a couple of large plastic tool boxes with tons of see thru compartments in the lid etc. You can get them v cheap at B+Q, poundland etc. Just make sure it's the BIGGEST one you can find - my stuff has already filled my first one. Wood cabinets are great for the tradition of it, but you can't lug them around, plus if you get him a box like the one above you can force him to keep all his mess in the loft.
  14. So what the hell does that mean? We can't get it after 2011?
