  1. They have a way of measuring their pay within the current free market / supply & demand system. They offer a certain amount of pay the the market decides if that offer means people who have the skills and potential to train to be Doctors are incentivised into the profession. If they get it right, we have enough doctors. If the jobs was so well paid and still attractive they could even cut the pay and still sufficiently staff the number of posts. We see this in lots of other professions. Out sourcing the work and “cutting costs/production costs”. On the flip side, if the pay / incentive is not sufficient then people will leave, not enter training, re-train etc. and we will struggle to fill posts. This seems to be the system we have embraced … we seem to want a free market like above when it suits those making massive profits and pushing down workers wages. But when the opposite happens and they can’t push down wages anymore whilst easily filling posts people want to make it illegal for the current staff to go on strike? What next? Will you make it illegal for them to quit the NHS and go to work abroad? Or make it illegal for them to retrain into another profession?
  2. They don’t because they aren’t allowed to, not because they don’t want to. Speak to any of them and they are seriously unhappy with the pay and conditions. July 2023 the Home Office reported record numbers of Police Officers quitting and noted they are in a staffing crisis. They’re also losing the experienced and trained staff and they’re being replaced with new recruits who are green, inexperienced and unskilled when starting out. Based off that, I’m unsure what point you’re trying to make. That’s hardly a shining example of what it could be like if we banned medical staff from being allowed to strike.
  3. The future of the NHS, you will be classed as too old and the “more productive” will be constantly skipped ahead of you in the queue. You’ll either die untreated on a waiting list or quality of life decline so much you’d opt for the lethal injection.
  4. On LBC around 8am this morning. A chief exec of the NHS saying the resources are extremely limited, and they need to start prioritising who gets care on waiting lists. He said younger people with cancer should be skipped ahead of the older people on waiting lists. The 18 year old with cancer should be jumped ahead of the 80 year olds, instead of them all waiting in the same line. Add in the push for legalising assisted suicide you can see the way it’s going.
  5. Any diet be it Atkins, shakes, intermittent fasting, weight watchers, slim fast, are all just various tools and methods, the key to every single one of them is to get you to reduce your calorie consumption over the 24/48/72 hour period. If you don’t have any issues with diary, a simple whey protein shake, alongside a piece of fruit, would likely provide you with similar meal content but have better contents for protein etc. Go for a slow pace walk everyday for 30-60 minutes. Cut out the highly processed foods (it’s no magic as noted above, those are just foods that are extremely calorie dense), and if possible to do a bit of weight training 2-3 times a week for low weight but as heavy as you can for 3x5 reps you will start to see a real difference Best of luck, making effort to improve your health is always possible and always positive!
  6. Like the privately run water companies that we just bailed out for how much whilst they pump our rivers and seas with raw sewage? Whilst paying themselves multiple millions in bonuses. Like the privately run utility companies who are “forced” to put up prices cos they can’t manage whilst paying record profits and bonuses to themselves? Like the privately run railways which are some of the most expensive whilst providing awful service? Personally I’d be significantly better off financially if it was privatised but I’m not mad enough to think it’s a great idea.
  7. Not really, going on strike is the final option for any profession, they are simply employing the same that any other employee could implement by going on strike / walking out. They’ve held off going on strike many many times in the past due to concerns for patients / service users whilst other industries have walked out. You‘re absolutely dreaming if you think you could run a modern day health service without middle management. All the shouts of “return to the good old days” were when health care involved a “nurse” (which today would be a health care assistant) washing, emptying your bedpan and feeding watering you and waiting to see if you died or not. Modern medicine is significantly more advanced on every level and as such requires significantly more effort in all areas. My sister has started a job this week in the private sector; the management seem much alike expect they finish early most days, go to the pub for lunch and no one’s in a rush.
  8. Different budgets and responsibilities. We spend money on roads, fireworks, Xmas lights / decorations, New Years fireworks, hosting events, etc, etc. Priorities.
  9. So why don’t the Government negotiate with them instead of offer them subpar pay deals? By the very same logic, the Government are killing people by failing to come to a reasonable pay offer. All of the above you have listed have been on strike in the last years.
  10. Games have been going on between us and Russia for a long time. Wagner group are supporting multiple coup d’etat’s across Africa presently in countries where the UK and our allies had influence (and power). That will be the next big power struggle. Lots of those American companies have UK divisions based here in the UK, supplying high skilled technical jobs in aerospace and defence.
  11. Because that’s the way it’s gone. That’s exactly the point Grant / Oowee is making. Ifs happening in many sectors. Why are teachers having to buy their own class room supplies? Why are tradesmen having to buy their own tools as employees? A mechanic / technician was on the radio the other day saying in his 30 years working as a mechanic they now have to supply all their own tools / equipment despite wages not rising and with things being more advanced the cost of the tools is now very significant. All the while big businesses declare record breaking profits. Absurd.
  12. His daughter is an employee, not a business.
  13. It would appear Reeves expenses are in keeping with other MP expenses then in that case? Considering the level of responsibility I am amazed the wages are ONLY £86,584. It sounds like a lot to the average working man on £36k or less, until you are making that sort of money and realise you’re not suddenly a millionaire overnight. I believe US senators are paid $174,000 (£136,294). Other EU counties appear to pay more (although not significantly) although many have a much lower cost of living vs the UK.
  14. It’s not MY estimate, that’s the official average Uk wage (https://www.forbes.com/uk/advisor/business/average-uk-salary-by-age/#:~:text=pay measures up.-,Earnings on the up,of 6.2% compared to 2022.
  15. Average UK worker salary is currently estimated at £38,000. Take home pay each month - £2530.92. Without accounting for pension etc. Rachel Reeves salary of £86,000. With the MP pension contributions, take home pay - £4402.08. £1,871 ish a month more than the ‘average worker’. It’s plenty of money to live comfortably but if you’ve taken a mortgage out years ago, and your mortgage has gone up 4-5-% points, your utilities have gone from less than £100 a month to several hundred, your weekly shop has gone up multiple times over. She is in a similar position to lots of other people. I believe her comments were more around her ‘noticing the impact’ of the cost of living crisis, things costing a lot more and less left over every month. People (Reeves included it seems) made big life decisions on things like house costs/mortgage, whether to send their kids to private school, etc etc, based on what they could afford at the time. Artificially low interest rates have led to people stretching themselves and they are now heavily impacted that rates have gone back up. On Martin Lewis last week loads of people were demanding that “rates must go back down” and he quite rightly said publicly, rates have always been around what they are now and people have been very silly to think they’d stay that low forever. I don’t think Reeves noticing the impact of rises makes her out as something to go mad about. Simply making the comments was foolish though as the media are out to slate anyone they can for a quick headline and it’s played right into their hands. With her husbands massive wage and ability to claim expenses she is hugely insulated against issues the everyday public face, very foolish to think she’d been seen as “one us us” and get some support for those comments.
  16. Fair criticism, I will try and look up what he said.
  17. To be fair, they are a work force like any other, you can’t emotionally black mail them with “if you don’t come to work people will die”. Thats a real low way to negotiate with a workforce, emotional blackmail. Despite that it’s been done for years in the health and care sector, people told if they don’t accept poor deals it will harm patients and service users if they strike, that manipulation has been going on for years, and in the past staff have buckled to it. They’ve not pushed that line too far and staff clearly can’t take it anymore. Also to this, many on this very thread have said if they don’t like the terms and conditions of being Doctors, then they should leave and do something else. This person has made steps to do that, clearly working as a Doctor alone wasn’t cutting it, and they’re better off working part time and spending the rest of their time with this investment company. It seems they can’t win and will get slated no matter what.
  18. 1/2 choke with the 42g 4’s on a 12 bore sound alright? Thank you
  19. This is good advice from Andy, First step is I would strongly consider, is your bitch a great example of the breed that warrants breeding? Or would you be better off avoiding all the risk/cost and bother and just buying yourself a pup similarly bred pup in? Does your bitch have any faults as outlined in the breed standard? Only them would I consider health testing as there’s no point spending money on health tests for a dog that holds a major fault (as it shouldn’t be bred!). Absolutely get the bitch health tested if all sound, it’s around £150 or less to do the DNA testing for the inherited conditions from pet genetics lab. You also then need to choose a stud dog that compliments your bitch, as Andy said COI, lines matching or out crossing etc, or are you simply just using your mates dog cos you know him and he’s nearby? Is his dog a worthy stud dog and proven without fault? Is the dog clean of any health issues? As Andy said consider if things go wrong, you could lose your bitch or incur major vet bills (The springer bitch that won the champs last year died whilst in pup so it’s not just myths, although unlikely to be fair). Add to that, if all goes well and you have the pups, that list of people who would love a pup will declare “ah what a shame, we’ve just booked a holiday” or “now isn’t the right time… maybe next year”. Add again to that that we are in a cost of living crisis, take a look on the various dog selling sites and see the high number of pups for sale, and note that many of them are well older than 8 weeks old when they should of been long gone. Not many people buying dogs / pets atm and record numbers are being given up each week to rescues due to the cost. Make sure you have a plan for them as you may have them for quite some time. Then you have the cost of docking (and currently it is a major pain for many people finding a vet that will even do it). It is critical that this is done in the first few days. Few claws, jabs, worming, etc. Then consider that cockers usually don’t have big litters, it’s a substantial cost and don’t expect to be making money out of it. Again, not trying to be doom and gloom, just make sure you go into it with your eyes open fully aware of the potential issues you could face. Best of luck if you go ahead, PM and I will send you the link for the health lab I used if you’d like to look it up 👍🏻
  20. Still a fair chunk cheaper than the new Defender. Likely the same issues though, all these cars going over to electronics and systems that go wrong. They used to be so reliable cos they had minimal stuff that could go wrong in the first place.
  21. All 6 of us, first time going up, we are realistic however that they’re wild birds and nothing is guaranteed!
  22. Absolutely, and all the unpaid work running around scouting and prepping I imagine.
  23. Have ordered 42g 4’s in Lyalvale Express. Arriving tomorrow. A bit last minute but one of the lads claimed he had loads and no one buy any, which turned out to be less than 100 carts 🤣
  24. Thank you Yes I believe paying the guide 👍🏻
