  4. i have a tikka varmint in 243win and load my own 65gn v max [when i can get them] , at the moment using 70gn sierra blitz king , but i do like 55gn heads but i can no longer use these as i cannot seat them deep enough in the case. Is there any way that a rifle smith can shorten the chamber? I usually seat about 15 thou off the lands but if i try with 55gn they hardly go in the case
  5. thanks for the feedback and tips, on checking with a spirit level i found that the surface my scale was on was not quite level, so moving to a level surface seems to have cured the problem. it seems strange that such a small change in angle causes this problem as you adjust the level for a start. so thanks redgum for stating the obvious, and thanks 1066 for your pics
  6. no not dead centre, its closer to the pointer end of the slot, i would say a 1 ml gap and a 3 ml gap the pan side approx
  7. ok, just tried blowing on the beam, same result
  8. just trying to zero my rcbs 505 scale and noticed that i set the zero and every time i tap the beam the pointer never comes to rest in the same place, any suggestions on why this is happening?
  9. My local reloading supplier has some of these bullet heads in stock, 62g varmint granade in 243, i thought i would load some for fox control. Has anybody got any experience with these bullets? i would be interested in the performance and how you rate them
  10. i have for sale a set of lee reloading dies which includes a neck sizing die and a lee case length trimmer, also including a plastic 9 round bullet box in 223rem all in perfect condition £35 posted
  11. thanks for all your views on this, looks like i will be upgrading to a better quality balance scale, apart from about £12 can you tell me the difference between the rcbs 502 and the 505?, again i say thanks
  12. just wondered which was the more accurate way of measuring powder, i use the lee balance type at the moment but the hornaday lock and load seem to be an average priced digital scale, i would be interested to hear any thoughts
  13. Hi there, the gun comes with 5 chokes which are screwed internally to fit flush with the end of the barrels the same as most other guns and this gun is 3inch chambered
  14. Ive registered, at this particular question just enter one of the three answers e.g. YES and then you will use this answer in the future. Although if you need any info or if you intend to talk about f a c power DONT bother registering as the administrator seems to relate f a c questions to swearing, you will get far more helpful answers from this site
  15. No Mat, i use an old deben tracer-max gun lamp with a u/v lens that i made, it cost me all of £6 of ebay and works perfectly. i think a decent illuminator costs about £100 and i haven't seen the pulsar one
  16. Hi Mat, i have the pulsar chaiienger and find for the price it is very good and with an extra u/v illuminator you will be able to see rabbits well beyond the range of a 12ft/lb air rifle, as far as i know you won't be able to use your illumination which is a pity. i use mine on a mamba which has a fine cross hair ret and can see the ret ok. you have to mount the scope well foreword to allow fitting the challenger on the eyepiece but when fitted it is surprisingly comfortable, i say use an extra illuminator as the small one that comes with the challenger is next to useless, another point worth mentioning is that the battery seems to last a long time, hope this helps
  17. for sale is a 200cc bottle, it is only 3 months old and is in perfect condition, only took it off my r10 and replaced it with a 400cc bottle to get more shots as its an fac £60 posted or buyer can collect cambs
  18. thanks everyone, they will be back in the shop on monday
  19. i have a t3 varmint in 243 and i love it, on the end of the varmint barrel i have a wildcat moderator and when you add a large scope it makes the setup very heavy, so if you are stalking with it for a long day i hope you have strong shoulders but i use mine from a vehicle most of the time and the short barrel is very nice, if i lost it tomorrow i would go straight out and buy another and another and another.......
  20. Hi all, just fitted a 400cc bottle to my fac r10 and these are the results. Pellets used are jsb exacts and gun filled to 232bar shots no1 to 60 averaged 27.5ft/lb, shots no60 to70 dropped to 27ft/lb and the pressure in the gun dropped to 130bar, shots no70 to 80 dropped to 25.6ft/lb and gun pressure dropped to 105bar, at this point i set a target up at my zero range 40mtr and surprisingly to me i shot a 5 shot one hole group which was only 10mm low, very happy with the shot count and still to be virtually on target at 25ft/lb makes me glad i fitted the larger bottle. By the way i used to get about 40 shots from the 200cc bottle....hope you find this interesting
  21. Just been to pick up some bullet heads, at the moment they don't have my usual v max 243 in stock so i took a box of v max moly coated instead, whats the coating supposed to do and will i notice any difference?
  22. Well I've loaded some cartridges using the rem primers and heres the result. cal 243, case hornaday, powder h4895=40gn, bullet hornaday v max 65gn, range 100mtr, tikka 20inch varmint barrel, shot from the tail gate of my hi-lux using a bipod, i fired a three shot group of 9mm, but only two holes as two bullets actually went through the same hole, extremely happy with that as i have had an accuracy problem i think due to my rifle having fired over 1000 shots and i think the lands are a little worn. In the past i have only ever used 55gn bullets so the 65s being longer take up more head space, thats my thinking anyway
