  1. I shoot several farms here in south norfolk totaling a bit over 4000ac, all that which is going to be rape, around half, is already drilled and some is 1.5" tall, one farmer was drilling wheat yesterday evening, I guess to try and beat today's deluge, he phoned the other day to say that pigeons had already started on one field near a big wood, will be out saturday for a few hours, it will keep him happy even if I don't get too many Mikee
  2. Norfolk Police are probably the best in the country, I think I posted on here last year that I wanted a new shotgun and couldn't find my certificate, I phoned police HQ and had a new cert waiting at HQ reception in less than 90 minutes
  3. shotgun is definitely best Mikee
  4. you might find that most land has already been cleared, before my ticket was opened I would regularly ring the FEO asking about land and every single time it was cleared historically, nearly always for .243 and a few were for .308, FEO told me that when ever land was first cleared even if only .22rf was asked for it was cleared for the largest caliber suitable for the ground to save going back over it in later years Mikee
  5. I use google earth for my work from time to time but find it super useful for checking new land and the surrounding areas, the land against wind directions and distances for shot fall on nearby houses when pigeon shooting or for measuring distances from the edge of the woods to some cover for positioning high seats at a given distance, wouldn't be without it now Mikee
  6. I tried the new 3D socks out friday afternoon, I had seen in previous replies that they worked best in dull conditions which friday afternoon was, I didnt shoot just set the 10 decoys out on some stubble and sat in my truck and watched, not all the birds that came to the field decoyed but all the birds that came in on the right lines swooped straight in and some even landed for a few seconds, certainly better than before, I sat a couple up in the garden yesterday in the sunshine and they were a bit shiny so they will be useful at least some of the time, well worth the tenner they cost and will be ordering 20 more to do the rest Mikee
  7. Its been a while since I posted anything on PW I have just bought 10 of the 3D printed decoy sock covers to smarten up my old coys, I was going to replace them all with new but they seem to be a lot of money these days so I bought the socks but only time will tell if they' re any good does anyone else use them, they certainly look the part Mikee
  8. with this coming weekend being the last of the current river season I was wondering who will be out where and after what I will be down on the river Yare after roach, fished there a fortnight ago and had a good bag of roach and dace with the biggest roach a bit short of 2lb with several around the pound mark Mikee
  9. A few weeks ago I posted "where are all the pigeons" its certainly changed round here, there are "pigeons everywhere", since there was that dose of snow up north last week thousands of pigeons seemed to have moved into east anglia what are the pigeon numbers like in other parts of the country I will be out monday after them, shame all the winds we had previously have died away but i will be out there anyway Mikee
  10. some of my od deeks are looking a bit rough, I have been looking at the stretch fabric hd covers, anybody used them or have any comments http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DECOY-SOCK-x10-COVER-HIGH-DEFINITION-SHOOTING-DECOYING-MAGNET/111891350096?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3D26f9a1ec87a143d8937b0f4d1e7b0361%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D111922447981 Mikee
  11. stick with your hide in the wood and flag the feeding corner off so they look somewhere else to feed on the field Mikee
  12. I used psb2 for a 32g #5 and #6 lead 12b load and it was deadly, I used some to load in my 8b, data from Ian Charltons sheet, it was pitiful and when I challenged him about it he said it was theoretical data and shouldnt really have been on the sheet, its by far better in 32g 12b, for 36g loads there are much better powders available, if you want the recipe that I used pm me Mikee
  13. I nipped in at the end of the shoot on sunday and payed my subs, not been a member in several years so looking forward to a few round this summer Mikee
  14. Just had a bit of a result, I was driving down the track that splits part of this new permission about 10 days ago and bumped into the next door farmer, I quized him gently about shooting his land and got a bit of a cold shoulder, I gave him my number anyway thinking nothing would come of it, low and behold he rang this morning asking if I would meet him so he could show me round his land as pigeon numbers are building so hopefully next week I will have several hundred more acres Mikee
  15. JDog, it all comes apart, it shows in the video how to fit it in a car Mikee
  16. this was just delivered, hopefully it will make humping gear around the fields easier Mikee
  17. where i walk the dog the primroses have been out for almost 4 weeks, the skylarks are all singing away, the first of the cowslips was out this morning when I walked the dog, loads of trees in blossom, lets hope there are no big frosts or the autumns berry harvest for the birds will be poor, cant remember a spring this early Mikee
  18. that is true Bakerboy, those without shooting need to do what most of us with shooting did, got out and found it and in some cases waited until the resident shooter moved on or got kicked off, its not down to BASC to get involved
  19. that is spot on Anser, BASC has over stepped its remit on this one, just an excuse to be seen in another area, its not right and we dont want it, do what BASC is intended to do fight government and the anti etc not go touting for shooting, leave that to the shooters
  20. if BASC are going to try and take my shooting away I will soon find another insurer and ******** to BASC, theyre here to help us not take over, when they loos 25000 members they will wish they had left pigeon shooting alone Mikee
  21. It doesnt really matter as long as its not junk, the main consideration should be gun fit, if it dont fit you cant shoot it properly Mikee
  22. peas are a superb substitute for spring rape though, if they get left as the harvesting team goes past for what ever reason you get another go at them, a 70 acre field near me got ripe too quick a few years back and the harvesters passed by, I shot some big bags on there, even after they had been ploughed in there were peas everywhere, pigeons came from miles Mikee
  23. finally there seem to be a lot more birds in my area, I will be having a go on Friday on a piece of the new land I got a few weeks ago there have been good numbers on a field in the middle of the village for a few weeks but there is no way to get at them without upsetting the whole village Mikee
