    Rifle testing

I've found my springers tend to stay pretty much the same. However PCP's deffinatley change with the air temp - I'd set my S410 to 11.8 with Mozzies, a week later my Bro asked me to pop over and sort some rabbits out for him. As a matter of course I chrono'd before setting off and it was nudging 13  . Fortunatley mine isn't anti-tamper so I can turn it back down when I need to ( also I don't set it quite so close to the limit anymore!) I really can reccomend getting a Chrombo - cheapish and accurate, then you know where you stand.
  2. I think with your budgets your best bet is to buy a quality second-hand rifle, rather than a cheap new one. I would also go with the spring route to avoid having to buy charging gear, or C02 capsules. .177 is deffo the way to go for targets due to its much flatter trajectory at 12 ft/lbs. You need to try a few rifles before you finally decide what you want / can afford. You don't need to own a rifle to join a club and the members will be hapy to let you try theirs. So don't rush into anything! Rifles I'd look at in your position are Air Arms TX200, Weihrauch's HW77 & 97 also possibly BSA's Superstar. All these are pretty heavy, but they are managable - I had a BSA Goldstar when I was 16. Also the weight makes the rifles less "jumpy" I earned the money for my Goldstar washing peoples cars. A couple of quid a time and make a nice job, its suprising how quick you can coin it in, especially at this time of year when your car is filthy and its flipping cold!
  3. Uttings have got the Balmoral Classic for £55 http://www.uttings.com/
  4. I started with Hull Comp X, then tried the Pro Fibre and I'm now going back to Comp X ! Its not that I don't like the Pro Fibre, just they are a lot more expensive and I'm not good enough to notice any difference! I might be tempted to just get 250 untill I was happy with them though. My mate bought 1000 Kent, and imediatley decided he didn't like them
  5. I got a few bits. A cartridge bag, a pair of waterproof trousers, pair of Hunter wellies, subscription to Sporting Gun, coaching DVD by George Digweed and a key-ring hip flask with two Whiskey miniatures!
  6. Yep, from that description it must be a Spitfire
  7. I had a caution when I was a minor. I was advised this wasn't a conviction, so I didn't need to declare it. Also when I recieved the caution I was told once I was 18 it would be wiped, and no record of it would remain. So when the Police came round twelve years later - it was the first thing he asked about! It wasn't a problem, I just explained it was a "one off" and obviously nothing like that has ever happened since. My advice though - declare everything!
  8. Sounds like madness, but I too bought my shottie before my licence came through. I've a Lanber in my cabinet now thats waiting for my mates licence coming back. I guess its not as unusual as I thought!
  9. Thats interesting, my mates Lincoln fails to fire its second barrel every 100 shots or so. Quite irritating.
  10. I like the Bettinsoli Diamondline, my Bro-in law shoots with one and obviously I've test driven it! One of my pals was in the market for a new gun a few weeks ago, and thats what I reccomended. However he came out of the shop with a Lanber Sporting Deluxe, just as nice to shoot, but the woodwork on this example is far better than the Bettinsoli's I've seen. Another friend has the Lincoln, I know they get good reviews, but I'm not as keen on this one. Your probably best to handle them all and see what suits you best, they are all fine budget guns. As for the price I would look around and ask the shop to do a price match, I did this with an air rifle once. They couldn't match the price, but threw a bundle of free stuff in with the gun. A very good deal :(

    Fun Gun

I prefer springers for fun shooting too! I really enjoy shooting my BSA Goldstar, just for pleasure. Obviously you'd have to go 2nd hand for one of those. Others I'd consider are TX200HC & HW97K. I've always fancied one of the vintage BSA's too - purley for fun
  12. I've got a cheap (but comfy) pair of walking boots for when its dry, a pair of Hunter wellies for this time of year. Works well for me.

    New toy

Excellent! Got any pics of it? I've had my 147 GTA for around six months now and I'm loving it.
  14. For the money I think they are a cracking little gun. I love the feel of them, and the pointability. I've not tried the tactical, but I'm on my 2nd XL. My first XL was a .177. It was a little jumpy due to the smaller calibre and the lightweight, but I could still drop 50 yard knockdowns with it. I only sold it to fund my S410, and associated PCP gear. My current XL is a walnut stocked .25, much smoother in the big calibre, though obviously only good for close range stuff.
  15. Mainly for use in FT with airguns. It allows you to rangefind the target and then zero the scope prior to your shot.
  16. That is a fantastic motor car!
  17. Yep, not far away - Wakefield. Shoot quite regularly out your way at Park Lodge
  18. The 7's are the newer style, same as mine. I've not used the 6's, but apparently they are not the best when its windy.
  19. Could you ring or e-mail them to confirm the delivery time? I wouldn't want to wait that either!
  20. Yes, those are the same as mine. The only difference is mine come with green and orange shells, rather than black and orange. The orange ones are for deer hunting

    what is this?

Your right, its to adjust the trigger pull
  22. Yes, they are just like regular ear defenders if they are switched off. Mine beep when you switch them on and off. They also power off automaticly after a couple of hours - in-case you forget! I got mine from here http://www.best4headsets.co.uk/category/as...619/af/page.htm They are expensive, but they are also fantastic!
