I have just broken a tine off of my favourite garden fork. I hate heavy clay soil. I know I could replace the fork, but it wouldn’t be this one. Would the tine be able to be welded back on, and if so would it be as strong?

i did the same thing many years ago...........yes it can be welded on.....i found that where the break was ..there was a fault in the metal....that was 15 years ago ..still going strong

it could be worse..  President Boris, Dave, Liz ( would have liked to have seen Maggie giving it a go, that’d have been fun for a very short time )

The Republic ‘ship’ has sailed and it was seen as a poor replacement for a Monarchy, we have what we have.

I have hope that Charles will continue to reform how the Monarchy works which in turn should reduce taxpayer contributions, if in turn that means the Royals are doing less in public then they also benefit, and lets face it some of them should not be allowed near the Public.

    i agree

Brilliant. Well that seems like a good place to start. Which would be the best cut for Ham. I bought this last summer and hot smoked a lot of mackerel but would like to try ham if possible, as said earlier it goes to 135c

ditchy, I have no problem with your opinion, the system was designed with spares for just such circumstances?

I will, would think hay would impart its own flavour

you can put fresh hay in the water if you want or coka-cola......i meant a "hay box" that you put the boiling ham and pot into then surround by hay or sawdust and put a lid on it and leave until the next day ...........its a victorian slow cooker

I think, to be honest it was the fouling, the main spring is fine, so much tension when putting it back together!  As always with these things we tinker with, 20 minutes to carefully it take apart and 3 and 1/2 hours to get it back together, I sort of understand the Greener advice not to take apart!
However removing a whole pile of various gritty substances has left it smooth and slick in operation, the disc at the base of the pin was grinding on the shaft walls it moves in, now polished with a light oiling it moves freely and without resistance. Back on the range will hopefully confirm!

would it be an idea on areas that need lube that are hard to get to...maybe either

    1. not to oil it
    2. use graphite powder

what do you rekon ?.............maybe a more qualified person could answer this ?
