  1. Never had any problem finding ones to fit any of my guns over a good number of years. They all seem to come pre-drilled. Even if they are it isn't a problem adding different holes and they won't show on the outside until you actually push the screws through the outer rubber. Also most are 'grind to fit' so there shouldn't really be a problem finding something suitable. There are plenty on that well known auction site, Avalon guns have a good range and do mail-order and there's loads of other gun shops on-line. GH
  2. Stick to shooting the stubbles! If there's a sign asking to keep off newly planted fields then keep off. If you don't you are quite likely to lose the permission in my view. Remember that you won't attract pigeons to an area they are not favouring already. Sometimes it's possible to slow them down enough to shoot them if you set up under a flightline. A strong flightline will have birds going in both directions. GH
  3. We're going on the Sunday but not for the same reasons I used to go for. ie actually buying shooting gear and guns. Very little point going to do that as there are so few actual gun stalls/makers represented these days its almost impossible to get a bargain and the choice is just not there anymore. Nearly spent the whole day on Gunmakers Row most years but these days we watch the displays and look at clothing stalls(the wife seems to enjoy it much more : ( ) GH
  4. +1 I would add that you may get a bit of a lull between 12 and 2 o'clock but will often pick up again after. GH
  5. I always painted UV on the floaters I used to make. No way of knowing if it made much difference but they used to work pretty well. GH
  6. Goat is very tasty and healthier than lamb due to the lack of fat. It can be cooked in all the ways lamb is cooked but I won't eat it unless I know how it was killed. Halal is a definite NO-NO for me! And yes, I do know a lot of lamb is killed that way too. GH
  7. Can't really compare with anything here as it's the first time I've voted in anything major, having moved in only a couple of years ago. There did seem to be a fairly steady steam though not huge by any means. Personally, I know of only one 'Inny' out of all the people I've spoken to on the subject. GH
  8. Or to put it another way...if it's just all grass then it's PASTURE and not ARABLE. Pasture won't produce much pigeon shooting unless there are flight lines to crops nearby or, as said, clover is sometimes the food of choice but you will find that it's a case of being in the right place at the right time. GH
  9. Absolutely agree. The light spring was like a hair trigger and too light for safe field work. GH
  10. What would you like me to have because I've probably got it (except motorized flappers)! Hide nets, Magnet with arms for dead birds or foam winged deeks, Pop-up hide, manual flappers(the flying type) Hide poles, floaters, landers. GH
  11. I find this technique works really well in spring as, I think, that several short peeps is a mating call but I'll stand to be corrected. GH
  12. Doubt its Ringed plover because the nest is not out in the open. They usually nest on stones/shingles. GH
  13. Definitely one to consider! I had one and loved it. Superb handling and light enough to carry all day! Why did I sell it? don't know now....must have been mad!! GH

  15. You mean like the one in the picture on the left of this post? GH
  16. Just to reiterate one point that was made regarding knee replacements. I know several people that have had them, including my wife, the ones who did the physio are fine and won't look back.....the others aren't so DO THE PHYSIO!! I've just had a hip replacement for the second time after smashing the first one. It's not the same but I'm doing the physio! GH
  17. I have any or all of what your friend wants as I am thinking of packing up or at least cutting down on the amount of kit I have. Not really in your area though but thought I'd let you know it's available in case you/he decided it was worth travelling for. Cheers GH
  18. Got 2 tin boxes, neither of which are full I believe I'm down for 11 as far as FEO is concerned(not including air rifles) I'm well down on what I have had in the past but I think I've got all I need for now(but you never know ) Read below for current list. GH
  19. I use 30grm 5shot in mine. Seems to upset those high crows no end and the pigeons aren't too keen! GH
  20. No, but I do have a 1995 Rav 4. Also great as a shooting wagon GH
  21. I've sold a couple. No problems when all the minor details are sorted. I'd do it again( which might be sooner than later GH
  22. I posted in the 'where have all the pigeons gone' thread mentioning a huge flock feeding, or at least on the ground as well as in various trees, on a field of maize stubble which I can see from an upstairs window. The birds don't appear to arrive all at once but begin to build up throughout the early morning and I mean early, as in just before sunrise. They are on the ground and in the trees continually with more joining and others leaving during the afternoon. I think that this thread is more concerned with rape but I can't imagine it's that different no matter what they are feeding on. My vague conclusions are that an early feed is essential and a free choice throughout the day, alternating between spells in the trees and then a feed later in the day with some choosing a change of diet. No idea if any of this is at all helpful. Just my recent observations over the past 10 days or so. There is a small up-date on this. I now have permission to shoot this particular field and plan to do so on Saturday, weather permitting. GH
